Has anyone actually seen something stating that he does not intend to call plays? People on this board slamming it down that he is not going to call the offense like it’s written in stone. Personally I want him calling the shots - and if mcvay and Shanahan can do it, why can’t MLF who has studied under each of them?

The biggest hire we need now is a quality DC and I’m hoping MB is willing to fork over the money. As soon as monti got off the phone with Lafleur - he should have picked up the phone and called morris offering him near HC money to coach here instead of letting him go to the niners.

Right?
I have 8k+ followers...but if im blowing smoke up your ass for kicks it doesnt suddenly make the position true.

If ESPN's top guy posted...
Arizona Cardinals have decided to not hire any assistant or position coaches in order to maximize Mike LeFleurs player development ability by having him work with each player 1-on-1
....I guess Knone would take it as gospel
Well this guy has 70k followers, so hopefully some on here (wink wink) will find it credible.

As good a hire as the Cards were likely to get. A few other teams liked him but were afraid to wait then miss out on a similar level immediate option. ML will require patience on the fans’ part. He is very bright and has a high level of energy, which should be a nice change. There will be quite a bit of OJT. The coordinators selection will be tricky. It may be tough to get a play caller, so I think ML may well end up with that task. He’s come a long way since the Jets experience, which wasn’t a fair test. He should be in great position to get a solid read on Willis, plus this would seem to enhance the Cards’ chance of signing him if they desire. That might jump start the offense’s rebuild. If Willis is his desire, Ossenfort needs the financial support to make it happen. The DC choice will be easier with several experienced guys out there. Hopefully they go for someone who’s aggressive. That’s how this defensive roster was built. I don’t like retaining Rallis. Getting an experienced coaching staff would seem critical. This HC hire should help with attacking the disastrous Oline in both free agency and the draft. Ossenfort needs a focused offseason. I might take a shot at getting Levar Woods for special teams.

After posting this list, it started annoying me that I did not include any former head coaches as OC-candidates. Okay, Thomas Brown has been an interim, but not for long. I just think it is important to have a former head coach as support for LaFleur, and it could obviously also come on the defensive side. That is one reason that I favor Jim Schwartz over Weaver and Pleasant. However, if it is Weaver, Pleasant or another DC, it would need to be on the offensive side or as some sort of consultant. So I looked at some options, and I will caution that they are not very exciting. I expect that it would not be in a playcalling role.

Brian Callahan was the head coach of the Titans. He was a bad playcaller with them, but he was obviously good enough as a non-playcalling OC with the Bengals to get the head coaching job. He is a disciple of Zac Taylor, who is a disciple of Sean McVay.

Matt Nagy went from being the leading candidate for the Titans head coaching job some weeks ago to seemingly being completely out of the hiring cycle. He was head coach of the Bears some years ago, and one time Head Coach of the Year. He has not called plays since then, but is very well versed in Andy Reid’s offense.

Frank Reich works at Stanford these days, but was previously head coach with the Colts. Some days ago he interviewed for the Jets’ OC-position.

P.S. On the original list I forgot to mention Jake Peetz. He is the passing game coordinator from the Seahawks, and has worked with LaFleur several years with the Rams. He is a hot OC candidate out there.
Nice imput again.
I said this before. One would have to think ML was having conversations with associates with “ what if I’m get the job” conversations.
So I’d look for a previous relationship ML has had. I think he will want some familiarity with vision, style, and philosophy.

Can it be announced today if it's Kubiak?

I mean, “players liked him way better than Nat Hackett” is a pretty low bar to clear. He’s coaching in the NFC West.

Yes, beat writer for the Jets is a more credible source than this guy…

The journey was full of turbulence, but the Cardinals landed in a safe place. With Mike LaFleur, they get a recognizable name, a young candidate with intriguing pedigree, and a head coach who knows the NFC West.

Yes, I agree. I also saw a video (forgot when it was from, but I think last year) where LaFleur highly praises McVay and Shanahan for their ability to spot coaching talent and how well coaches develop on those staffs. It is at least interesting regarding coordinators.

Mainly for that reason, my guess is Dave Ragone as OC and Aubrey Pleasant as DC. My preference would be Thomas Brown and Jim Schwartz, but I have no idea if that is even realistic.

The Rams do have Jimmy Lake as a defensive assistant, and he has been both a multiple time DC and three years as a head coach. I guess we could call him a dark horse.

Another thing I thought of, wasn't there a report saying that Ossenfort preferred Campanile because of his culture building? Well, Weaver is a bit the same type, so that might be another perspective to think of.

Do you have a preference for someone, Slanidrac?
