The Arizona Cardinals ended mandatory minicamp this week and are off until training camp begins on July 22. Because the Cardinals are playing the Hall of Fame Game, they get an extra preseason game and will open camp earlier than everyone in the league except the Carolina Panthers, whom they will face in the Hall of Fame Game.

Head coach Mike LaFleur is glad to have the earlier start and extended time in camp.

They get an "extra block" of practices. "We're going to be able to put our pads on, and some teams are just going to be reporting," LaFleur told reporters. "Like that's going to be awesome. You know, where we're actually starting to play football and that's a positive for the Arizona Cardinals."

"I think that's great," he added. "I think a first-year head coach being in the Hall of Fame Game, getting that extra week, I think that is absolutely a net positive for us to be able to get the preparation, get those pads on a little bit earlier. Our acclimation period, guys are still going to be on vacation around this league."

Now, with more practices and an extra game, it does mean more risk for injuries, although it is highly unlikely any starters will get much work in the Hall of Fame Game. However, a team with a new offense and needing to learn to be better, more work is probably better.

"I think is a great thing for all of us players and coaches."
