KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The last time Gerrit Cole was on the Kauffman Stadium mound, he helped send the Yankees to the AL Championship Series.
Cole's seven innings of one-run pitching came in the Division Series Game 4 clincher against the Royals, and the right-hander owns a 0.84 ERA here in three career regular season starts.
On Wednesday night, Cole makes his second start (first on the road) since coming back from Tommy John surgery rehab, with the Yankees seeking to extend their regular season winning streak vs. the Royals to 13, dating to September 2024.

A solid 1-2-3 first inning for Cole, who strikes out Bobby Witt Jr. (swinging at a 2-2, 97-mph fastball) and Vinnie Pasquantino (looking at a 2-2 changeup) after lefty Noah Cameron has a quick top of the first.
Cole applauded Jose Caballero's sliding catch in left field, on a 105-mph liner by leadoff hitter Maikel Garcia.
This is Caballero's first outfield start of the year, with Volpe at short, McMahon at third (first start of this series) and Rosario at second base.
Per Aaron Boone, it's just a day off during a long stretch for Jazz Chisholm Jr., the darling of the KC crowd.
