Where Tennessee baseball players, recruits landed in MLB mock drafts

The 2026 MLB Draft is just days away, and Tennessee baseball will be represented well in the first few rounds.

The draft will be held in Philadelphia on July 11-12 during MLB All-Star Week, with the first day featuring rounds 1-3 and the next day having rounds 4-20.

Last year’s draft was historic for Tennessee with a program-record four players drafted in the first round. That won’t be repeated this year since pitcher Tegan Kuhns is the only likely first-round pick from the 2026 roster, but the Vols do have a highly-touted freshman recruiting class that features 10 players ranked in MLB Pipeline’s top 250 draft prospects and two likely first rounders in Jared Grindlinger and Trevor Condon.

Grindlinger and Condon are almost certainly going to sign with MLB organizations, but other members of Tennessee’s recruiting class will have to see where they land and balance the option to go pro or play for the Vols. Other draft-eligible Tennessee players, as well as incoming transfers, will also have that option.

Mock drafts for Tegan Kuhns, Jared Grindlinger and Trevor Condon​

The MLB draft is 20 rounds – shorter than the 40 rounds that were standard before the format changed in 2021, but still far too lengthy to project every pick. As such, most MLB mock drafts only include the first round.

Kuhns is expected to land in the back half of the first round. MLB Pipeline mocked Kuhns to the Seattle Mariners at No. 24 overall and Baseball America had him going to the San Francisco Giants at No. 29. The Athletic and ESPN did not include Kuhns in their most recent mock drafts.

Grindlinger and Condon, meanwhile, are likely to be taken within the top 20 picks.

Grindlinger, the brother of current Tennessee player Trent Grindlinger, was projected to go No. 13 to the St. Louis Cardinals by ESPN, No. 16 to the Texas Rangers by both The Athletic and MLB Pipeline and No. 20 to the Red Sox by Baseball America.

Some of Condon’s projected landing spots are No. 14 to the Miami Marlins (ESPN), No. 18 to the Cincinnati Reds (MLB Pipeline and Baseball America) and No. 26 to the Atlanta Braves (The Athletic).
