Splinter Cells 1 and 2 would be my picks right now...I've also lost many hours to the Civilization series, Empire and Empire Deluxe, Pirates!, just about anything from SSI back in the 80's, and of course...Wizardry!

Oh man...Reach for the Stars was awesome (for the time)! That was a Saturday night staple with my old gaming group for weeks.

I never really got into Ultima at any level, I tried though. I can't remember which version of Ultima I picked up for my Atari 800XL (either Ultima, or Ultima II) and I just couldn't get into to it.

Best PC games? My dad was an architect and so when I was a kid we always had to have the latest computer. As a result I've been playing computer games since I was about 5 years old :)

Adventure games:

The entire ZORK series
All the Leisure Suit Larry Games
Space Quest

Sports games:

Front Page Sports Football Pro (the best football game ever)

Action:

Doom
Commander Keen
Duke Nukem
One Must Fall: 2097
the entire Jedi Knight series

80s / Throwback:

Hard Hat Mack (apple IIe)
Karateka (apple IIe)

I'm not really a gamer, but I like Age of Emires II (The age of kings). Haven't played the Age of Mythology yet, but I heard that it's really good.

That reminds of an old game called Medieval Warlords. I always enjoyed playing as Bohemia or Scotland.

Great choices.

I would say definitely Pirates! or Civ.

Action I would have to say the original Rainbox Six.

For everyone who has listed Pirates! have you seen the remake that is coming out this year? I've never played the original, but I think pirates are awesome and everything about the new game I've read sounds great. I think it comes out 4th quarter of this year.

I saw that Sid Meier was redoing the game. Is there a release date posted? Its about freaking time!

I have seen on ebay that the old copies of the game sometimes sell for $80 or more. Its amazing.

I go to E3 every year and Pirates! is one of the games high on my list to check out. I'm hoping I can score a review beta copy while I'm there. When I think of all the time I spent playing Pirates! on my commodore 128 sheesh..

I'll just go with the first post's categories:

RPG: Baldur's Gate II (includes Throne of Bhaal).
Action: Thief Series.
Adventure Game: Myst Series (could possibly also be The Dig or Full Throttle).
Strategy: Don't really play strategy games...
Sports: Don't really play sports games, but it's probably the Madden series.

What about Half-Life? I rather enjoy that one.
Half-Life is one of the top rated games on the PC of all time. My only issue with it is that it came out and got big during a time when I wasn't gaming on the PC. I really haven't taken the time to play it since it's older technology now.

I am really looking forward to Half-Life 2, I got my system upgraded and ready to play it already!

I never really played computer games, I remember all the Kings Quest games and a game called Full Throttle with this biker dude. It was pretty cool.
