Fairview’s journey to a Region 6 title included two proverbial hiccups.
When it mattered most, however, the Tigers came through.
Fairview (16-6) defeated Harbor Creek (15-7), 62-43, in a District 10 boys basketball game Feb. 13 which decided the Region 6 champion. This completed a season sweep of the Huskies and secured Fairview’s first league title since 2022.
Offensive efficiency and control of the interior helped the Tigers build a double-digit lead they maintained throughout. Tyler DiVecchio’s 31 points led the way.
“It’s crazy the momentum whenever you see a bucket in the paint,” said DiVecchio, a senior forward. “The guys love it; the crowd loves it.”

Fairview defeated Harbor Creek by 19 points on Jan. 20. Two conference losses against Girard, however, left the Tigers tied with Harbor Creek atop Region 6.
The rematch saw plenty of Fairview offense, including 13 first-half points by DiVecchio, which helped construct an 11-point lead at halftime.
“(DiVecchio) has been doing it all year,” said senior guard Anthony Laboda. “We stayed confident with the ball, trusted each other as an offense and were one unit as a team.”
Fairview earned its 10th region title in boys’ basketball. Its win at Harbor Creek also helped its résumé for the D-10 Class 4A playoffs.
With 17 schools in this classification and five available bids for the PIAA playoffs, each game proves valuable. Fairview now enters the postseason having won seven of its last nine.
