Everyone in the gym knew Kenny Godoy was coming.
Fairview still couldn’t stop him. At least not enough to overcome the Girard senior’s 29 points in a District 10 Region 6 boys basketball game Jan. 16.
Godoy led Girard to a 53-44 win at Fairview. The Yellowjackets seized the lead in the third quarter on the way to the victory against their west county rivals.
“It was really just executing our sets,” Godoy said postgame. ““We played our style tonight and we got the win.”

Girard and Fairview will meet again Feb. 10. For now, though, bragging rights belong to the Yellowjackets.
Fairview carried a two-point advantage into halftime before Girard seized control in the third stanza. Girard capitalized when Fairview went cold from the field, outscoring the Tigers 14-7 in that frame.
Tyler Niewierowski added 11 points for Girard. Tyler DiVecchio led Fairview with 14 points and Alex Price chipped in 13.
“We worked a lot on offense with our cuts,” said Niewierowski, a sophomore. “Find open players and open shots and knock them down.”
Fairview entered the game allowing just 43.1 points per game, the second-best in District 10 behind Fairview. Godoy and company overcame.
