With 46% of the total vote share, FDR swimming's Troy Speare is the Poughkeepsie Journal Boys Athlete of the Week for March 2-8.


The Poughkeepsie Journal Boys Top Postseason Performer for the winter season is now live.

Nominations are based on information gathered and received by the Poughkeepsie Journal throughout the week. For consideration, coaches are asked to submit game information and player stats to [email protected] before the end of the week.

Each week's winner will be selected and posted in the upcoming week's poll. Polls will close at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night before the announcement the following morning.

Nate Johnson, John Jay indoor track & field​


Johnson took home the crown for both the Class AA 300-meter dash and the 55-meter hurdles at the Section 1 Class Championships on Feb. 15. He was also one leg of the Patriots' winning 4x200 relay team. He then placed second in the 300-meter dash with a time of 33.82 at the NYSPHSAA State Championships at Ocean Breeze Track and Field on Staten Island.

Michai Thompson, Beacon basketball​


The senior led the Bulldogs with 17 points in the Section 9 Class A Championship win over Red Hook at Mt. Saint Mary to help Beacon grab its first ever Section 9 title.

Connor Wilson, Lourdes wrestling​


Wilson capped off his season with a second place podium spot in the Division II 175-pound class at the New York State Wrestling Championships in Albany on Feb. 28.

Jalin Thompson, Spackenkill basketball​


Thompson led Spackenkill with 18 points in the program's MHAL championship victory over Red Hook on the road on Feb. 26.

Daniel McPherson, Pine Plains indoor track & field​


McPherson placed first in the 1600-meter finals at the Section 9 Invitational at The Armory in New York on Feb. 16 before shining at the NYSPHSAA State Championships at Ocean Breeze Track and Field on Staten Island, placing sixth in two different events. Those being the 1600-meter run (4:15.13) and the 3200-meter run (9:12.69).

Imran Kalemba, FDR indoor track & field​


Kalemba won the triple jump event at the Section 9 Invitational at The Armory in New York on Feb. 16.

Anis Abidar, Arlington indoor track & field​


Abidar finished in first place in the Class AA 3200-meter run at the Section 1 Class Championships on Feb. 15.

Landon Hotaling, Red Hook wrestling​


The eighth grader went 3-0 in the Section 9 Division II championships on to claim a 103-pound crown.

Aaron Watson, Lourdes basketball​


The junior finished with a game-high 25 points in the 75-56 win over Kingston in the Section 9 Class AAA semifinals.

Michael Mauro, John Jay wrestling​


Mauro placed third in the heavyweight division at the New York State Wrestling Championships in Albany on Feb. 28.

Troy Speare, FDR swimming​


Speare finished second in the 100-meter butterfly with a time of 48.54 at the New York State Federation boys swimming championships in Ithaca.
