The Poughkeepsie Journal Boys Athlete of the Week for June 1-7 is now live.
Nominations are based on information gathered and received by the Poughkeepsie Journal throughout the week. For consideration, coaches are asked to submit game information and player stats to [email protected] before the end of the week.

Each week's winner will be selected and posted in the upcoming week's poll. Polls will close at 8:30 p.m. on Sunday night before the announcement the following morning.
Johnson had a historic day at the Section 1 State Qualifier, breaking the New York State record, which was set in 1995, for the outdoor Pentathlon with 4039 points. He placed first individually in the 1A 110-meter hurdles (14.66,) high jump (6-5.5) and long jump (25-3.75.)
Abidar won the boys 3200 meter run at the Section 1 State Qualifier with a time of 9:30.41.
Williams won the Division C high jump at the Section 1 State Qualifier with a height of 5-10.
Correa threw a complete game, striking out seven and allowing four hits in Marlboro's 4-3 victory over Byram Hills to secure a Class A regional title. He also smacked two hits at the plate, including a two-run triple.
McPherson won the championship boys 1600-meter run at the Section 9 State Qualifier with a time of 4:25.11.
Broughton won the Division B 200-meter dash at the Section 9 State Qualifier with a time of 21.79.
Mihalchik won the Division B discus throw at the Section 9 State Qualifier with a distance of 150-6.
Russell won both the Division C 200-meter dash (22.63) and the long jump (22-1.5) at the Section 9 State Qualifier.
Avent won the 1A boys 200-meter dash at the Section 1 State Qualifier with a time of 22.04.
