Posters wringing their hands over the WR room when we only carry 5 on the 53. Cards have 4 TEs for a reason. With Kyle as our QB and Mcbride being a star the WR room is not nearly as important.

Yes we have 21 million in cap space but most teams like to have 5 to 6 million to cover needs during the regular season.

I would prefer an upgrade on the Oline, ILB, or CB over WR. If MHJ misses games it will be a challenge but who in FA would have alleviated this concern.

At "worst" we carry over the cap money to next year when this season will tell us what position needs the most help. Maybe one of the youngins gets extended. Maybe we suffer an injury and can trade for a player who helps us this year.

Some of you are like drunken sailors on shore leave and feel you have to spend all your money now because the next leave is months away

We only have $18MM in cap space with the carryover of the current cap number. We can free up some by dumping Josh Jones and others, but it won’t be enough to extend Garrett Williams at a top-of-market deal or Michael Wilson at a midmarket deal.

So would a lot of us but we did nothing ANYWHERE there despite cap room.

If you’re still asking that question after it’s not only been answered ALL offseason and even in THIS THREAD, there’s no point in answering again.

lol… or maybe we just want to actually be really good for once and not always be looking to “next year”. This is the third year of the regime. This is a year most GOOD organizations aren’t just hoping to get into the playoffs but make REAL NOISE once they’re in there.

And Keenan Allen just gets in the end zone. Really couldn’t use a veteran number 2 like that on this team, who signed for cheap. Oh the horror!!!

Getting a shiny new toy for the offense would be great. If we had a QB that would throw to him.
So we have to focus on guys who have more years ahead of them than behind them...unless we did a splash trade for a really big name

I like Keenan Allen and would have been happy if Monti signed him. Monti didn't seem to go after any WRs so his plan doesn't align with yours. But you turn that into Monti not trying or being a moron.
You did notice all the talent he added to the Dline.
Did you see K9s post on how much cap space we will have next year? It would be irresponsible to use up anymore Cap space on a WR this year.
Monti has a different vision on how to build a roster than you. You may be right but it feels too much like Keim time to me.

Chris Godwin got 22 mil per year.
Davante Adams got 22 mil per year.
Stefon Diggs got 21 mil per year.
Cooper Kupp got 15 mil per year. He had 162 more yards receiving than Wilson.
Darius Slaton got 12 mil per year. He had 25 more receiving yards than Wilson
Dyami Brown got 10 mil. He had 148 less yards receiving than Wilson.
Josh Palmer got 10 mil per year. He had 36 more yards receiving than Wilson.

Maybe you just trust that I don't make stupid points, and that I do the research you don't want to do before I say stuff.
Let's be realistic. If MHJ goes down, the season will effectively be over. We have MHJ, Wilson who is a big ?, and nothing else.

I really will not care much if we let Wilson walk, he is nothing special. Feel like we can easily replace him with a 2nd or 3rd round receiver.

Nowhere did I say Monti was a moron. Convo shoulda been over when you started laying down the lame “drunken sailors” crap, but when you start putting words in my mouth that’s when the convo is officially over.

I don’t see much evidence that this offense is dependent on MHJ, or that the success of the team is heavily weighted on the success of the passing game. It would significantly reduce our margin for error though.

What have you seen from this front office and coaching staff that suggests they can scout and develop WR talent? MHJ was maybe the third or fourth most productive rookie WR in his class. Wilson is the same guy he was when we brought him onboard. Zach Pascal. Zay Jones. Greg Dortch was here when Monti and Gannon arrived.

It’s easy to think that, but where’s the evidence?

Sorry you feel that way. IIRC you labeled some posters as gullible or you can correct me with the exact phrase but I feel it's just as crappy as drunken sailor.

My take is this. It’s going to be the McBride show this year. We are going to be a plodding ball control team.
The thing that will make this offense work is going to be in the red zone. Yards between the 20’s are stat builders and fantasy fg points.

Drunken sailor thing is a stupid opinion of yours, IMO, but it’s an opinion of yours so it doesn’t bother me that much. However, you saying I called Monti a moron is just flat out lying about what I said. When people just flat out lie about what I post, that’s usually the end of the convo for me.

That, and the ability to morph away from a plodding run team when needs must. That's why losing MHJ would crush any chances we have. We have really no WR depth, and we can't always just run.

Eh, we have seen Brady and gronk win...even Purdy and kittle...both with very limited outside help.
We may be transitioning to a Marv first offense but we can switch back to TE centric overnight.... and that's not even counting the untapped Reiman potential.
For our specific team/offense...WR depth is over rated

Let's not put better QBs in this conversation lol Ours is checkdown Charlie who almost found it impossible to get our TE a TD. When we have to throw, we need more than one real target. An indisputable fact. Otherwise double or triple Trey and shut the passing offense down.

For our specific team/offense, WR depth is still important.

Mostly agree slan (hope you enjoyed the summer btw).

But it's possible MHJ has a better performance this year. I think there's been work put in on both sides of the battery, and we'll see more production from Marvelous vs. 2024.

If so, we'll see the passing game push the ball down the field a little more, and be a little more explosive.

It's a little grating my friend, that every time you talk about the 2024 offense one could infer we were last in the league in terms production.

Inconsistent in 2024? Sure. Bad when it counted most in 2024? Fine. Boring at times? Absolutely.

But will you at least acknowledge that in totality, the offense was respectable? sheesh. :)

I don’t believe we are capable of morphing away from running the ball. We forget the stat packing that went on last year.
When we are down by 14 in the 4th quarter and our opponents go into prevent, Kyler suddenly becomes “ great”.
Controlled pressure kills Murray. Yes there are times when he will escape and make a play and we will hear “ That’s Kyler being Kyler”.
The best way I can describe Kyler is adequate.
