Tyler Lockett and Demarcus Robinson were veteran options that came pretty cheap. They don’t fit into the long term plan and neither are gonna be your best dude (hopefully), but they give you some depth and diversity.

I feel like both of those players are comparable to Michael Wilson at this stage of their careers. Just my opinion. I feel like the team could have upgraded over Dortch but he is also being asked to be a returner.

They’re both better than Zay also.

Let's not act as if there weren't upgrades available in FA/draft/trade to improve Kyler's weapons. It was a choice to do nothing.

This offense was plagued last year with receivers who couldn't get any separation - the solution is to run it back with essentially the same personnel?

NGS says Mike WIlson had more separation than DK, Mike Evans, Courtland Sutton, Ricky Pearsall, Tee Higgins, George Pickens, AJ Brown and Drake London.

Trey was one of the best TE's in the league for separation. The separation argument is bogus IMO.

Zay is a big nothingburger.
4th or 5th receiving options in a run heavy offense generally are. The reception pie gets pretty small after McBride and MHJ. WR2 gets snaps for sure. WR3 plays about 55% of snaps and also competes with RB for targets. Also factor in that most WR3s don't have plays designed to get them open and Kyler isn't a great progression passer...the opportunities are limited.

lol… well, while we’re STILL sitting on over 30 million dollars in cap room, it was worth spending a little bit of that to find out.
I get it but Gannon talks a lot about players buying into their roles. I don't imagine guys like Robinson or Lockett really want to go from 65%+ snaps to battling for a role of 55% snaps in an offense that just wants to run the ball. They want a role that will enable them to get snaps, stats, and another contract.

What happens when we get down and need to run out 3 or 4 WR sets? Is the answer to not get down?

Then guys like Wilson, Zay Jones and Dortch are the ones who should buy into their roles as the 3rd, 4th and 5th WRs they are… and are actually paid to be.

I think you present a false choice that lets the Cardinals off the hook

agree here

Kirk was available, with the added bonus that he and Kyler are tight

while a clear #2 would have been great -- ill take a solid vet WR who can compete at #3 and provide some depth in case somebody goes down

btw: a couple of those are still banging around

Yeah I totally see what you are saying here. Essentially it comes down to can Wilson be a solid #2 and Jones be a decent #3 in their limited roles on this run heavy offense with McBride being a prime receiving target. For me Zay's performance last season, or lack thereof, is what I find concerning. If Zay can return to being that 400-600 yard receiver then I'm fine with him being WR3 in this offense.

Where You get that # from? Team is at 21mill not “over 30”

That was last number I saw.

But okay… they’re still at 21 million dollars under the cap and they have one legit WR on the entire roster. That doesn’t make sense.

Feel like this regime prefers WRs that can block as well. That’s just me assuming.

Look at the top 4 receivers from the Conference Championship teams last season. Not many big names once you get past the first 1 or 2 pass catchers.

Eagles:
WR AJ Brown 1079 yards
WR DeVonta Smith 833 yards
TE Dallas Goedert 496 yards
TE Grant Calcaterra 298 yards

Chiefs:
TE Travis Kelce 823 yards
WR Xavier Worthy 638 yards
WR DeAndre Hopkins 437 yards
TE Noah Gray 437 yards

Bills:
WR Khalil Shakir 821 yards
WR Keon Coleman 556 yards
TE Dalton Kincaid 448 yards
WR Mack Hollins 378 yards

Commanders:
WR Terry McLaurin 1097 yards
TE "Ghost Of" Zach Ertz 654 yards
WR Olamide Zaccheaus 506 yards
WR Noah Brown 453 yards

Now if we look at the Cardinals from last season:

Cardinals:
TE Trey McBride 1146 yards
WR Marvin Harrison Jr 885 yards
WR Michael Wilson 548 yards
RB James Conner 414 yards

Probably holding onto those dollars to go after a QB1 next year. Have no idea who might be available, but if Cards finish 8-9 or 9-8 the search will be on for a new QB. Better to go shopping with a fat bank account, than pulling out the credit card. If it’s an 11-5 season, the money can be used in other areas. Eventually Kyler will need to be replaced.

Well yeah but 3/4 have MVP-caliber QBs. Im not sure what this comparison is supposed to illustrate.

It’s not about names, it’s about dudes who can play. Im over the “Zach Pascal can play” discourse.
