The Detroit Tigersplaced reliever Will Vest on the 15-day injured list with posterior right elbow inflammation, as announced on Wednesday, July 1. The team recalled reliever Beau Brieske from Triple-A Toledo to take his place on the active roster.

Vest's placement on the injured list is retroactive to June 28. This is the second time he has landed on the IL in 2026, after making a 15-day IL stint in early May with right forearm inflammation.

Vest last pitched in an 8-6 Tigers loss to the Houston Astros on June 27, with Vest allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits over one inning in that game.

Vest was one of Detroit's high-leverage relievers over the last two seasons, sporting a 2.91 ERA over 71⅓ innings pitched form 2024-25. His ERA has ballooned to 6.08 over 26 ⅔ innings pitched in 2026, however, with only two saves after saving a team-high 23 games for the Tigers in 2025.

Vest has also experienced a slight decrease in fastball velocity form 2025 to 2026, running an average of 96.5 mph in 2025 (84th percentile per Statcast) down to 95.7 in 2026 (71st percentile).
