You don't mess with the Sochan! You don't fix what isn't broken.Power forward Jeremy Sochan would be a solid addition for the Suns if they could swing a trade.

Many things to like about Sochan, especially his age and defensive versatility, but his shooting is going to cause problems. You can (and Phoenix does) play with one non-shooter on the court in today's NBA, but any more than that and it's going to compromise the offense. That means he can't play with either Williams or Oso, who are generally on the court the whole game.Sochan is only 22. If the Suns could trade for him somehow using Richards and NHD, they should do it. He is the type of dirt working power forward they need.
Where are we getting those two first round picks?Michigan state
He would be good now. If we are patient, Fleming will be that other big. We will have two young centers in Williams and Maluach. Our future at the big spot is looking pretty bright. Just need to be patient. If you get him for basically nothing, then OK. Don't trade away our future guys. Many things to like about Sochan, especially his age and defensive versatility, but his shooting is going to cause problems. I didn’t intimate it was likely. I was just giving a reason ish might overlook his less desirable traits. And before anyone says “ish wouldn’t do that!” I’m not saying he WOULD. I’m just giving a fact that could be a mitigating element given ish’s very obvious affinity for his Alma mater.Where are we getting those two first round picks?

I agree. If anyone can make it work, Ott could. And anytime you could potentially get one usable part for two unusable parts, it's a good deal.Your point is valid, but I tend to look at what a player can do, not necessarily what he can't... especially a young player.
The Suns desperately need a rotation power forward to compete at the highest level. He can help the Suns get there. I'd trust Ott to find a way to make it work.
The way I look at it, don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. He would help the Suns now... especially if he can be had on a reasonable trade.
I don’t think the Suns desperately need anything to compete at any level. I think to further your point, you look at what he can do, and try and pair iot with what the team needs. That makes the fit better. IDK how he shoots the three, but we have been getting away with smaller lineups due to spacing the floor on offense.Your point is valid, but I tend to look at what a player can do, not necessarily what he can't... especially a young player.

He's a career .287% 3pt shooter on 2.3 attempts per game, which is Okogie levels of bad (.310 career on 2.2 attempts, though shooting much better last couple of years).I think to further your point, you look at what he can do, and try and pair iot with what the team needs. Man so conflicted because getting Green back healthy could be a huge boost to the roster which makes me hesitant. Even though I LOVE what Williams is going I still have that thing in the back of my head that doesn't like what will happen if he goes down and Richards is gone. Just none of it feels necessary. Could we use a PF? Sure, but wouldn't he be a one year rental? I mean, Ishbia has expressed a desire to get under the luxury cap. You will likely have to pay this guy more than the outgoing salary in that trade scenario.I don't see a reason to tinker with this roster. If they need to make a trade for financial reasons, then fine. But do not mess with this roster unless it's a clear upgrade. We need a good power forward but Sochan isn't that, he wouldn't even be an upgrade over any of the various players we use to fill that spot IMO.
Our best move is to stand pat. If we do get the chance to acquire an above average power forward, it's likely going to cost us Booker or Green - we aren't getting that kind of value for our castoffs.
I think it's great that Richards has had such a great attitude in spite of rarely playing anymore. But I think the writing is on the wall. I'm pretty sure he'll be gone after the trade deadline. The Suns are almost making it a point now to not play him. It is nothing personal though. It's all about getting under the luxury tax thresholds. I appreciate that he's been such a good soldier.i saw nick richards smiling his ass off sitting next to book in one of the back to backs - i was worried there could be tension with him not getting playing time - nurk style - but he was enjoying himself laughing at whatever
tells me richards hasn't been banished - that there's communication taking place - like how richards has to be ready at any moment because manman isn't - everything we got going on right now hinges on williams and oso
not to mention richards actually played better defense in his last outings and we weren't playing zone - he was getting downcourt - he does pass the tough test - we weren't losing leads - simply put he's a much better option than maluach - i hope we don't need richards but we kinda need richards
While I'm considerably less interested in Sochan than you are - I agree that in the end, I'm happy with whatever Ott (and the other architects of this roster) wants.I love Sochan- he absolutely fits what this team is building. Pesky defender, super-aggressive, loves contact, goes after rebounds. If they can turn two players who are not playing into Sochan while ducking the luxury tax, I am all about it. On the flip side, he needs to get extended after this season, so the Suns need to be sure they want to do that. To be fair, they could just not extend him. As far as playing style goes, he is kind of a Ryan Dunn- they are VERY similar, so that begs the question of who they see as having a higher potential. Sochan is a bit bigger, but Dunn is a slightly better shooter. As far as depth goes... if Williams goes down, Richards isn't gonna save you. I don't think Richards is any better than Man Man.
I don't really have strong feeling here. It comes down to whether or not Ott wants him. If he wants him, I am all about it. However, I am also just fine with the Suns doing nothing.
If he is similar to Dunn, why spend the assets? Keep the chemistry we have. I'm kinda meh. I know Ott will prove me wrong, but maybe we should wait until the off season to make and moves. Get under the Aprons and Luxury taxes to free up (or keep free) our draft picks from being frozen/unfreeze. More guys should be hitting the market then. While I'm considerably less interested in Sochan than you are - I agree that in the end, I'm happy with whatever Ott (and the other architects of this roster) wants.

I am not worried about trading Richards or NHD. They are not essential to this team's success. I just took issue about the desperate need for a pf. I would be a fan of letting this team gel, getting a good look at a roster with a healthy Book and Green (if that could ever finally happen) and then considering. We are early in the process. We have time to put together a better roster.Well, if Richards and NHD are involved, I wouldn't worry about that if Jordan Ott likes him as a player.

I don't know if I have ever seen a Suns team as deep as this, at least functionally. A lot of that is Ott, but these players all seem competent and there is no one who makes me wince when I see him at the scorer's table ready to come in.I always look at depth when I evaluate a team. Always have to plan for missed games and injuries.
Also, the Suns can beat a lot of teams by grinding them down. That takes quality depth at all positions.

We are getting excellent guard play all across the board. Bouyea just carries himself with an air of competence, so does Grayson, and Goodwin. The forwards are also competent. When you have Royce and Brooks on the court you have both scoring and D from both forward positions. Royce's shooting is so important for this team.
I just find it hard to see who we could get who would be better at their roles.
