so Nolan doesn't get a Best Director nod for TDK or Inception? That's just stupid.

Juliane Moore was 10 times better than Benning/Ruffalo.

Of course not dude, Hollywood is jealous of true talent. He was lucky to get a nod for Inception as Best Picture.

The Oscars, all awards for that fact, are a joke anyway.

Yep. For example, the direction in Inception KILLED the direction of the Hurt Locker and any ANY film Clint Eastwood has ever directed. Ever.

Did you guys see the nominees for Best Director?

ACHIEVEMENT IN DIRECTING
"Black Swan"(Fox Searchlight), Darren Aronofsky
"The Fighter"(Paramount), David O. Russell
"The King’s Speech"(The Weinstein Company), Tom Hooper
"The Social Network"(Sony Pictures Releasing), David Fincher
"True Grit"(Paramount), Joel Coen and Ethan Coen

Really, only the Coens could arguably be removed from that list. MAYBE David O. Russell. Yes, Nolan did an awesome job on Inception, but you can't argue with the ones that did get nominations.

Personally, even if Nolan did get a nomination, I think Darren Aronofsky deserves the win.

Since i have yet to seen any of the above, I say Nolan should be nominated over any of them. :)

I've seen all 5 and all are deserving. The question is if Nolan is MORE deserving than some of them, and like I said, maybe the Coens or Russell. But not the others.

i would have given it to him over Russel or the Coens and that's coming from a huge fan of both.

And i'll be stunned if Fincher doesn't win. he's my pick for it.

I'm thinking Social Network will sweep all it's nominations. My mind says Fincher will win best director, but my heart wants Aronofsky to win it.

I am boycotting Social Network. Just have no interest. Will watch on Netflix.

I thought exactly like that before I saw it, but my attitude changed completely after watching it.

There's a scene towards the end that has some of the most brilliant acting I've seen in a movie this year.

No I didn't, and I could have told you that these films would receive the bulk of nominations just based upon what I've heard during the course of their run.

That's my main problem with awards programs, no one has to watch any of them to know who the nominees will be. For instance, before Black Swan was released, the buzz was "Oscar worthy". Hell, Academy members don't even have to watch these films to vote on them.

When the voters are as informed as I am, there's a problem with the system.

Maybe I expect too much, but I can live with that.

Well, except when the films actually ARE Oscar-worthy... and Black Swan, Social Network, Inception and the King's Speech definitely are.

I can dig it. I'm just down on awards ceremonies in general, and I have been for a while.

Perhaps this year is the year where we see that the bulk of nominations, and the winners, are actually deserving for a change.

Yeah, they said that about Battlestar Galactica. And people were all excited about Brokeback Mountain as well.

the first 3 seasons of battlestar were great... i was bored to tears in brokeback.

Is this how it works? I am 36 and starting to realize or think that movies and music just keep getting crappier and crappier? I think the Network movie was probably the best out of what I caught this past year. It wasn't all that great but was better than the other stuff.
Will there be another generation that comes up with their own thang.
Cinema you have all the CG and stuff, that's new and some how those movies have better writing than the other regurgitated action/chikflik/re-make or some black dude dressing up a old fat black lady.
Music, :barf: well this isn't a music thread but the stuff coming out today makes me want to go watch one of these bad movies.
