This is exactly why it's done.
The IP is actually causing a problem because the older people are slamming this movie.

It looks like you aren’t going to understand my point so I’ll just leave it at that. No big deal, I just think using that IP is backfiring on the movie.

Except do we really know old people are slamming this to a large degree? one old person here is slamming the movie. Proof will be in the pudding when it comes out.

Jesus, you do know the internet is bigger than ASFN don’t you?
Forget it. You’re spoiling for a fight and I don’t have the time nor desire to do so over The Fall Guy of all things.

For me it's a respect thing... Star Trek...Batman... they were remakes of TV series from decades prior. But when they were made the film makers treated them with respect and didn't go out of their way to make a joke out of them.
It seems fairly common in Hollywood to be as disrespectful as you can to anything produced by the previous generations.
Blatantly obvious to anyone who read The Wheel of Time then had the misfortune of watching that garbage amazon produced.

I guess if you can't make it better the next best option is to tear it down to your level.

I don’t know how you can use Batman as an example when you say Batman was respectful when it entirely changed the tenor of the earlier tv show. Granted it was actually relying on the comic book and graphic novel versions.

I’m reading that this is basically an FU to a certain Hollywood mega star who claims to do all of his own stunts but actually doesn’t
Any truth to that?

The narrative sounds right with how the movie played out, yes. Is it a certain Tom Cruise?

In fact, given the character name of who he stunt doubles for--Tom Ryder--I'd say it must be Cruise :D

Tom Cruise doesn't claim to do all of his stunts. That is a PR thing that has taken a life of his own. However, Tom Cruise is freaking crazy. He may not do them all but he does do some dangerous crap. Watch any behind the scenes stuff on the movies. He has even been denied getting insured on some of his films. I figured it was making fun of TC (not an FU) but I also thought it was strange when dude takes risks no other actor would take.

The irony is the star of this film, RG, couldn't even do some of this stunts or they wouldn't insure him. LOL

Don't matter. In a lot of people's eyes, TC will never be someone they respect. Ever. But they'll still pay a lot of money to see his movies, that's for sure.

I have no idea if he does a bunch of stunts are not. I do know he's cray cray with the "other stuff" in his life, but he can do him and it won't make no nevermind to me. He's a good actor, and he's paid to do that, so I enjoy the movies of his I watch. Except the second Reacher movie. Barf! Wasn't his fault, though.

Agree.
I'm pretty good at separating church and state when it comes to entertainment.
Was actually disappointed when milli vanilli got canceled...why didn't they just continue with the ugly bastards that could sing?
Still have a copy of Thriller... love Mike's music...can't wait for Spacey to get back to work...and Harvey weinstein put together a solid portfolio of movies....so cruise is a scientologist...so what...he makes epic movies and that's his only purpose in my life.
