Minski
Hall of Famer
Really never understood these ideas of trading proven players for lottery draft picks. It seems like every year there are people who want to do trades like this… crazy
im sorry man, I forget your from across the pond... Mike Wilson was drafted out of Stanford,...not Arkansas or Bama.Dude, players are earning for the rest of their lives. Nobody is taking a nice guy deal. Their agents know market value.
The projected transition tag for WR next year is $27m. In a year we may well not have a QB.
also, there are ways to set up a contract that make it easier to sign a guy for less money..
example...5yrs/60mil...only 12 mil a year, not top cash for a decent WR... but if its 5/60 w/50mil guaranteed, 30m as signing bonus, with 4mil salary guaranteed per year...its a lot more acceptable to a guy than getting 5/100 with 35 guaranteed...and likely getting cut in a couple years...
with most players, that guaranteed and up front cash are more important than the overall number...because players usually dont see a full payout from a huge contract unless they stay at pro bowl or better level...so get the money now is usually a better option

Dude will continue to work and earn for decades after he stops playing football.
Big difference between a college football factory and a (borderline) Ivy League Educational Institution.
we shall see grasshopper...This is "One day I'm going to sleep with Beyonce" level dreaming.
As things stand right now, Mike is getting $23-27m a year on the open market. Yes, the structure matters, but only in deciding who to go to within that range.

Beyonce?? Dude, raise your standards...nobody dreams about that.
I would have said Gal Gadot but I tried to think who the Americans might fancy
if we had a legit chance of making the playoffs next year, I wouldn’t consider it. But I just don’t see Monty paying $30M per year to keep him so we will essentially let him walk for nothing in a lost season. Cincinnati is the poster child for why you shouldn’t pay 2 WR’s top money.never understood why you would want to trade a good young player under control for a lottery ticket
How about we keep both this year?Keep Michael Wilson.
Trade MHJ.
I'm fine with that, but if one has to go - adios, MHJ.How about we keep both this year?
At this point. I'm in wait and see mode.I'm fine with that, but if one has to go - adios, MHJ.
Uh Oh...here we go.......Jenny McCarthyI would have said Gal Gadot but I tried to think who the Americans might fancy

A smart team wouldn't offload offensive weapons when they just hired an offensive head coach. A smart team would be trying to take advantage of them rather than trading for future magic beans. Why? So we can watch him get 800 yards a option #3 in a dead year for him to then walk for nothing?
A smart team would cash in now and get a 2027 2nd round pick that they can use to draft a QB. Chances are, we will need more than whatever we have in the draft to get the QB we want.
And I say this as a big fan of Mike.

no chance they'd get a 2nd round pick for Wilson. Pittman was much more accomplished, and they swapped late round picks for him. Why? So we can watch him get 800 yards a option #3 in a dead year for him to then walk for nothing?

IMO, you are looking at this backwards. It's really easy to say. So what are you doing next year?
The seasons over. We go 5-12. We're picking 6th. Cards had a running game again so we don't throw it 45x a game, and MHJ and Trey were healthy. So Mike has a respectable 900 yards. The market is set at $28-30m and he's FA. The transition tag is $27m. We really wish we had some more draft capital to move up into the top 2 to get a QB but we let that ship sail. But hey, you got to watch Mike get 900 yards in a losing season before he left.
So, what exactly is your plan next year?
