are you seriously suggesting we're making the playoffs in the next 2 years?
I’m suggesting that’s the standard Monti should be held to if they believe he’s done a good job over three years of building the roster and that’s why he’s still here. Has NOTHING to do with what WE believe is possible.

Seriously: “we should trade Josh Sweat for a first round pick we hope can someday be as good as Josh Sweat” is certainly a line of thinking that will lead somewhere.
Yeah, shhhh…don’t let Monti hear this. He may pull the trigger.

A hard “no” for me as well. We need some building blocks if this team is going to crawl from the wreckage.

The answer is no, but just thinking about it hypothetically, you'd need to get a Sauce Gardner type return (2 future first rounders). Then draft the edge you think is best at #3 (which probably will have the most value at that pick) to replace him and take the extra 2 first rounders to put yourself in a better position to grab the QB you want next year and/or fill other holes. Even in this scenario, Sweat's cap hit for 2026 is half of the dead cap money we'd be on the hook for if we traded him.

Of course we should, now that we have a first year coach expectations have been reset and its okay to lose again!

If the Cardinals trade pass rusher Josh Sweat post-June 1st, they would save $18.1 million in cap space while only incurring a $5.5 million dead cap charge. If Sweat wants out of Arizona, it’s a very movable salary to receive a strong package from a contending team.

Would STILL be foolish to do so. Players always "want out" and then can be talked off the ledge. This is all rumor and heresay right now. Silly to entertain the thought.
Yes he probably wants out because he came here for JG and now he’s stuck in this Mickey Mouse organization. But he’s a pro and he’ll come here and get 8-12 sacks.

He didn’t go to OTAs last season either. This is #content.

Also, he costs an additional $15 million on the cap this year after he got an option bonus. The accounting doesn’t work this year.

Finally, he’s the only one of our top four edge players under contract for 2027. Collins, Browning, and Beej are all pending free agents.

At least we have Jordan Burch, who played 504 snaps and got one sack and eight pressures. Dalvin Tomlinson who is a run stuffer had one sack and 5 pressures in just 46 more snaps.

Yes. I'll explain why.

I have concerns about Sweat this year. I don't believe he asked for a trade, but I can imagine he's not happy. He's 29 years old and he's guaranteed a losing season.

From what I have seen of his he doesn't strike me as they "I'm going to do the job 100% no matter what because that's what I'm getting paid to do" type. He seems like the type that needs to be playing for something. This seems fairly evident in his stats last year.

5 of his 12 sacks came in the first 5 weeks. After week 10 he had 3 sacks.

He also very much seems like the type to think he's now vastly underpaid. Despite his low snap count.

I understand the "You can't trade your best players" line, but you can. People do. Because if they aren't all in then you aren't going to get much out of them, and they can be a negative in the locker room.

If he stays I can see it being a mediocre 6 sack season and next year we have a 30 year old guy with much less value.
