PITTSBURGH – Having ended their five-game losing streak the day before north of the border, the Red Sox begin a three-game set at PNC Park against the Pittsburgh Pirates Friday night.
Even with the recent skid, the red Sox are still 28-8 in their last 36 games dating back to July 3. They’re also 36-13 in their last 39 starting June 19.
Boston dropped the first three games in Toronto before rebounding with a victory in the series finale. They’re 16-4 in their last 20 road games, and in their last 48 road games are 32-16 since April 25.
The Sox are 14-13 all-time against the Pirates and 8-7 in Pittsburgh.
The Red Sox have lost two straight series — one at home against the Athletics and on the road in Toronto — after winning nine in a row prior.
For the series opener, the Red Sox are giving Ceddanne Rafaela a night off with Eli White taking over in center field. In addition, after a day off Thursday in Toronto, Adley Rutschman is back in the lineup and behind the plate.
