LOS ANGELES – The hottest team in baseball is poised to take on the team with the best record as the Red Sox’ road trip continues Friday with the first of three against the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
The Red Sox, fresh off yet another winning series — their seventh in a row, in Sacramento — have won 25 of their last 30 games and now have the third-best record in the American League.
The Sox are also a season-high six games over .500 and are 12-1 in their last 13 games. Boston owns the American League’s best road record at 32-22. Over their last 41 games away from home, the Sox are 28-13.
The Sox are the first American League team to win 20 games in July since the Tampa Bay Rays did so in 2013.
Boston is 12-15 all-time against the Dodgers, but just 3-9 at Dodger Stadium. The Sox have lost their last five games here.
For the series opener, the Sox will have Nick Sogard at second base, positioned at the top of the lineup. DH Masataka Yoshida, who has occupied the leadoff spot at times in the last week, is hitting fifth.
