TORONTO — The Red Sox are in a stretch of 16 games without an off day, so interim manager Chad Tracy is trying to get his most frequently used players a rest here and there. On Monday, it’s Andruw Monasterio’s turn.

Monasterio, who has started 17 games in a row at shortstop — and has hit .344 with a .900 OPS in that span — is out of the lineup against the Blue Jays and Nick Sogard will start at shortstop for the second time this season. Sogard is leading off against righty Jameson Taillon, who is making his second start for the Blue Jays after coming over from the Cubs.

The Red Sox have Masataka Yoshida (hitting fifth as the designated hitter) and Caleb Durbin (sixth as the third baseman) back in the lineup after both were out Sunday. Yoshida has been ill in recent days and hasn’t played since Friday. With Sogard shifting to shortstop, Anthony Seigler is the second baseman. Connor Wong is catching Sonny Gray for the 13th straight start.

Boston arrives in Toronto to start a two-city, seven-game road trip after losing its first series in more than a month by dropping two of three to the Athletics over the weekend at Fenway. The Red Sox are 3-6 against the Jays so far this season but won a series against them in Boston in July. Toronto is 5-3 in August despite having traded Kevin Gausman, Daulton Varsho and Jeff Hoffman before the trade deadline.

The Red Sox, who are 11 games over .500, arrive in Canada with a 27-5 record in their last 32 games. They are 12-2 in their last 14 games against American League East clubs.

Gray was tagged for five earned runs and 10 hits in five innings against the Jays on July 25 in his worst start in months. He’ll look to write a different script at Rogers Centre with first pitch set for 7:07 p.m. ET.
