For any player who puts on pads and a helmet, the idea of being a pro football player. From there, if that dream is achieved, the idea could then lead to talk of a second contract and more to lead a complete football life. For a very few, special players, there is the rainbow at the end that leads to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
This weekend, the latest class will be heading to Canton to be enshrined, led by two NFC South legends, Luke Kuechly and Drew Brees. But with all the celebrations centered around that, some folks have started to wonder who else could become a Hall of Famer.
ESPN's Bill Barnwell went through every NFL team and made some decisions on players who could be enshrined eventually. For the Bucs, he mentioned Antoine Winfield Jr. as having "work to do."
He explains, "Winfield looked like he could be trending toward the Hall after a 2023 season with six sacks, six forced fumbles and three interceptions, but the second-generation pro missed half of the campaign that followed. Safeties typically need to stuff the stat sheet to have a shot at enshrinement, and Winfield's 2023 season has been an outlier relative to the rest of his career. He's also about to turn 28."
Winfield has shown he can be one of the best safeties in the NFL, so it makes sense that he is getting some discussion. A healthy version of him is the ultimate x-factor in the NFL, and the Bucs and their fans hope to see him that way in 2026 and beyond.
