For any player who puts on pads and a helmet, the idea of being a pro football player. From there, if that dream is achieved, the idea could then lead to talk of a second contract and more to lead a complete football life. For a very few, special players, there is the rainbow at the end that leads to the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
This weekend, the latest class will be heading to Canton to be enshrined, led by two NFC South legends, Luke Kuechly and Drew Brees. But with all the celebrations centered around that, some folks have started to wonder who else could become a Hall of Famer.
ESPN's Bill Barnwell went through every NFL team and made some decisions on players who could be enshrined eventually. For the Vikings, he mentioned Justin Jefferson as being on the "cusp" of earning the honor.
He writes, "Jefferson has more receiving yards through his first six seasons than any player in NFL history, narrowly topping Randy Moss, Torry Holt and Jerry Rice. And although Jefferson plays in a higher-volume passing era than any of those players, consider that Moss was catching passes from Daunte Culpepper, and Holt (Kurt Warner) and Rice (Joe Montana) had Hall of Famers under center. Jefferson's best quarterback as a pro has been Kirk Cousins. There will be plenty of competition at wide receiver in the years to come, but assuming Jefferson bounces back from an uneven 2025 season with better QB play, he's only another year or two away from earning his plaque."
Jefferson has proven he can overcome bad quarterback play and thrive with a good passer under center. If he keeps up his consistency with 1,000-yard seasons and can win some playoff games and honors, as he has already, then he should earn a spot when he returns.
