PHILADELPHIA — The Mets have not won three games in a row since late in May when they closed out a series with the Reds with a win and then swept the Marlins.
In the month since, the Mets have found themselves treading water, with a 8-8 record in June.
The Mets have a chance to capture their third straight win and a series victory over the rival Phillies at 7:15 p.m. on Saturday night at Citizens Bank Park.
The club shook off back-to-back losses against the Reds by toppling them 9-1 in the series finale and then surging past the Phillies in a 6-4 win on Thursday night.
The Mets will be tested in their quest as they take on left-hander Cristopher Sanchez, who is on the short list for the National league Cy Young award about three months into the season. Sanchez is 8-3 with a 1.82 ERA in 15 starts this season. He has allowed two earned runs or fewer in 13 of those outings.
The Mets will counter with Freddy Peralta, who is 5-5 with a 3.90 ERA in 15 starts, including a 1.30 WHIP and 81 strikeouts in 83 innings. On the heels of giving up a season-high six runs against the Cardinals, Peralta responded by holding the Braves to one run on five innings and securing the victory in his last start.
Check back for more updates and analysis as the Mets and Phillies play the second game of their series on Saturday night:
Francisco Lindor provided some encouraging signs in his first rehab appearance Friday night as he works back from straining his left calf in late April.
The Mets shortstop singled in his opening at-bat, played six innings and made four plate appearances for Double-A Binghamton. Lindor, along with Tyrone Taylor (hip flexor strain) and Ronny Mauricio (left thumb fracture), will make their next rehab appearances for Triple-A Syracuse on Sunday.
Christian Scott, who has been sidelined after since last start on June 11 with a right hip impingement, threw a full bullpen session at high intensity on Saturday. Assuming Scott feels fine, Scott will next throw live batting practice across multiple innings.
"It was good to watch him today just throwing his baseballs with no hesitation and he looked normal," Carlos Mendoza said. "He looked fine."
