GREENSBORO – Third-seeded Ragsdale topped second-seeded Dudley 32-21 in the semifinals of the Metro 6A/7A Conference girls basketball tournament Thursday at Smith.
Ja'mya Boddie had nine points for the Tigers (17-7), who moved into Friday's championship against top-seeded Grimsley. Mackenzie Mayer and Aaliya Boddie each scored eight points.
HIGH POINT CENTRAL, RANDLEMAN
RANDLEMAN – High Point Central lost 60-49 against Randleman in PAC Seven 4A/5A boys basketball Thursday at Randleman.
Michael Johnson had 14 points and eight rebounds for the Bison (14-8 overall, 8-4 conference), who finished second in the conference. Josiah Hill added 13 points, followed by Myles Graves with 12 and Jayden Velez with 10.
In the girls game, Central lost 63-28 to close the regular season 2-20 overall and 0-12 in the league.
SOUTHWEST GUILFORD BOYS, WESTERN GUILFORD
GREENSBORO – Second-seeded Southwest Guilford lost 63-49 against third-seeded Western Guilford in the semifinals of the Metro 6A/7A Conference boys basketball tournament Thursday at Smith.
The Cowboys moved to 18-6 overall.
BISHOP McGUINNESS BOYS, WINSTON-SALEM PREP
BEAR CREEK – Second-seeded Bishop McGuinness beat third-seeded Winston-Salem Prep 70-41 in the semifinals of the Greater Triad 1A/2A Conference boys basketball tournament Thursday at Chatham Central.
Arop Chom scored 16 points to lead the Villains (19-5), who advanced to face top-seeded South Stokes in Friday's championship. Bryce Chapman added 15 points, while JJ Short had 13 points and Jones Chavis had eight points.

BEAR CREEK – Bishop McGuinness rolled past South Stokes 52-11 in the semifinals of the Greater Triad 1A/2A Conference girls basketball tournament Thursday at Chatham Central.
Jenna Moore scored 21 points for the Villains (20-3), who advanced to take on second-seeded North Stokes in Friday's championship. Claire Sullivan added 14 points, while Jaina Turner had five points.
THOMASVILLE BOYS, WHEATMORE
THOMASVILLE – Second-seeded Thomasville beat third-seeded Wheatmore 50-37 on Thursday at Thomasville in the semifinals of the Central Carolina 3A Conference boys basketball tournament.
Ziyhan Taylor scored 16 points for the Bulldogs (14-10), who moved on to face top-seeded Providence Grove in Friday's championship. RJ Drayton and Danarius Gibson added 10 points each.
Collin Dodd had 13 points for the Warriors (13-11). Truman Auman followed with seven points, while Jordan Starkey had six points.
WHEATMORE GIRLS, EAST DAVIDSON
TRINITY – Top-seeded Wheatmore defeated fourth-seeded East Davidson 46-31 on Thursday at Wheatmore in the semifinals of the Central Carolina 3A Conference girls basketball tournament.
The Warriors (19-5) moved on to face second-seeded Providence Grove in Friday's championship.
GRUBB EARNS CONFERENCE HONOR
CHARLOTTE – High Point University's Makayla Grubb the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week for women's golf – her seventh conference accolade this season and fifth Freshman of the Week award.
Grubb tied for runner-up at the RiverTowne Intercollegiate with a 4-over 220 (75-72-73) for her best collegiate finish. She made eight birdies, while making a hole-in-one in the first round the 14th hole with an 8-iron from 138 yards. Her performance led the Panthers to the team title for the second consecutive year.
MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL
TRINITY – Trinity Middle defeated Southeastern Randolph 25-16, 25-15 and Uwharrie Ridge 25-11, 25-15 on Tuesday.
Addison McCoy had 16 service points, 11 aces, 12 assists and eight kills for the Bulldogs (2-0). Emery Lockwood had 15 service points and six aces, and Conley Parrish with 16 digs.
ROCKERS SIGN 1ST PLAYER FOR '26
HIGH POINT – The High Point Rockers baseball team has signed its first player for the upcoming season – infielder Ethan Skender.
Skender spent three seasons in the San Diego Padres system before playing with the Gastonia Ghost Peppers last year.
A native of Metamora, Ill., Skender was an outstanding hitter for the Ghost Peppers last year, hitting five home runs in 22 games against the Rockers. For the season, he posted a .268 average with 13 homers and 58 RBI.
Skender began his professional career in 2019 after being selected in the 28th round of the 2016 MLB Draft by the San Diego Padres out of Florida State College-Manatee-Sarasota.
