Interesting... They wasted no time revealing what Kong looks like--a bit refreshing for this type of movie.

So...this is another remake with no ties to the Peter Jackson film?

This isn't a remake of King Kong. It's basically a new Kong origin story. It takes place in a complete different time than the original and the Peter Jackson remake.

Yep, it takes place in the 70's. The director stated that he wanted to show Kong early. He was tired of monster movies that waited until late in the movie to show the monster. I'm looking forward to seeing this one. Kong movies et al are always on my must see list whether they are good or not. :)

The way I understood it from early development in the Legendary timeline, was that this was a continuation of the 1930's Kong because at some point between then and 1954ish (godzilla) is when Monarch got involved. This Skull island is basically Monarch's sandbox which we see by all the other monsters in the trailers. And all of this ultimately leads to KK vs Godzilla in a few years. Monarch is what Legendary is using to tie the franchises together.

So the timeline would look like this - 1930's Kong > Godzilla being nuked > Skull Island > Godzilla '14 > Godzilla 2 > KK vs Godzilla.

So then technically this would be a sequel to either the 1930s King Kong or the Peter Jackson remake (or both).

Why is there only a single Kong? Does King Kong have parents?

He may be a mutation. Similar to Godzilla. Godzilla didnt have Godzilla parents. He was just an iguana who got radiated by the Bikini Atoll nuclear tests

I was going to ask why they keep making King Kong movies, but I see from this thread there is lots of interest, so I guess that's why!

It's just odd to me that they keep making King Kong and Godzilla but the Thunder Cats still cant get a movie! :p lol jk

They should make a movie with a gay Kong and call it Queen Kong

Or a porn and call it King Dong? lol sorry

This is the first King Kong movie made in my lifetime that interests me. I've never cared for the idea of bringing the beast back to civilization but I love a movie that stays in that live or die setting. Give me The Thing, not Dinosaur goes to San Diego (Lost World:JP 2). I'm okay if the creature goes to New York City on it's own though, I just don't believe in forced monster bussing.
