Hugo Gonzalez was a bit of a surprise inclusion on the Boston Celtics' roster for NBA Summer League.

The reality, though, is that he might not play much.

Gonzalez started games for Boston as a rookie, and he's the only player who has started in a game for the Celtics who is on the Summer League roster.

In some scenarios, that would mean Gonzalez gets to be the star for Boston in Las Vegas.

In this scenario, though, there's something working against him.

Why Hugo Gonzalez might not play much at Summer League

Gonzalez has been busy already this summer.

He's been playing for his country, Spain, in FIBA World Cup qualifiers.

Gonzalez is shining on that stage, too, which is as good or better experience than he could get at Summer League.

Gonzalez also filled the stat sheet up against the country of Georgia:

9 PTS (3-8 FG, 2-7 3PT), 2 REB, 2 AST, 2 STL, 1 BLK

There are a lot of Celtics fans who are hugely into Gonzalez's potential, and that won't change at this point.

Whether or not he plays much at Summer League, the future is still bright for Gonzalez, who was a late first-round pick in 2025.

The Celtics certainly want to see him keep getting better, and if he does, look out.
