Hello all,

Some of the postseason awards in the hoops.ws fantasy league have to do with draft picks. The order available on our league site is wrong, for reasons I explained in a post there. The correct order is posted here.

* = drafted by a bot for the Tucson team, which is why the picks make no sense

(The edits attempt to fix the formatting, which got screwed up somehow. For some reason it converts the letter between F and H into an asterisk.)

These were my votes:

1. Bobby Jackson at #146. Yes, he missed some games due to injury, but the number of guards in the league who play 30+ minutes and are at better than 2.1 fppm is very, very small.

2. Donyell Marshall at #105. I thought about taking him, but I thought his production would trail off once his minutes went up. I was wrong.

3. Troy Murphy at #172. An eleventh-round pick? Murphy would be the #2 forward for a lot of teams in the league.

Other good picks:

Andrei Kirilenko at #100 -- On my team, but I didn't draft him. Was incredible in the first half of the season, even though he has cooled off now.

Ricky Davis at #104 -- #33 in the league in scoring. Not bad!

Gilbert Arenas at #108 -- Yep, that was a steal, all right.

Troy Hudson at #188 -- Hey, he's the best guard on a division champion (although, like Kirilenko, I didn't draft him). That's pretty impressive.

(Edit: It turns out Hudson isn't on a division champion team after all. I had calculated that I narrowly won Game 63, but apparently I was off just a few points. So I lose the division on the average-score tiebreaker. :-( )

Yes, #40 is correct. I posted a message to the site explaining where this error comes from.

#143 is Malik Rose. Sorry about that.

Michael Jordan at #41 was pretty much a steal, but Donyell Marshall has to be the steal of the draft.

He is almost averaging 2.3fppm and 70fppg

For a good part of the season those stats were better than Chris Webber.

In Fact the top players in fantasy points ranked by their productivity are

1. Shaq 2.94 #7
2. KG 2.85 #6
3. Duncan 2.83 #2
4. TMac 2.81 #4
5. Cwebb 2.69 #10
6. Kobe 2.68 #12
7. Nowitzki 2.58 #5
8. Kidd 2.43 #13
9. Pierce 2.41 #9
10. Malone 2.36 #25
11. JO'Neal 2.34 #17
12. Brand 2.29 #8
13. Gasol 2.28 #23
14. Marshall 2.28 #106

Some of the worst picks in my opinion were Baron Davis at #11, Grant Hill at #10.

Troy Murphy is the 2nd best pick in my opinion. He ranks very high in fppm as well and way only a #172 pick and would probably not even been drafted if I didn't take the chance.

#3 is Arenas in my opinion. He is 0.04 better than Murphy is effectiveness but was also picked 64 slots higher.

The best pickup HAS to be Matt Harpring others who deserve mentioning would be Carlos Boozer and Larry Hughes (was I drunk when I dropped him with my guard problems? Ever since I dropped him his numbers got better)

6th Man Award I voted for Amare Stoudemire, Michael Redd and Troy Murphy.

MVP - Shaq, Duncan and Webber. Initially I voted for KG,TMac but remember their teams did not even make the playoffs.

I accept this list, slinslin, but there are two issues you are overlooking:

1. Your cutoff for points per game is arbitrary. You leave out Sabonis and Fizer (pre-injury) because they don't play enough minutes. That makes sense, but Marshall's minutes are on the low side also. I'd rather have Shawn Marion than Marshall, because Marion gives you so many minutes that you don't have to worry so much about how productive the your bench is. If you have Marshall plus a 2.0-fppm player for 11 minutes, that's worse than Marion.

2. It's much easier to score big points at C or F than it is at *. So, when comparing players, the question should not be how good they are in general, but how good are they compared to other players [/i]at the same position? [/i]For this reason I think Nash is clearly more valuable than Marshall, because it is so difficult to find high-scoring Gs.

I do agree that Marshall was the best overall steal of the draft. But I think you rate him too highly. He is very good, but not quite so great as you think.

I agree that Harpring was the best FA pickup. Foyle has also been very good. He is at about 2.0 fppm since the beginning of the season (he was about 1.7 after the first month or so and now is at 1.92). He plays more minutes than Boozer.

Marshall plays 30mpg

Fizer played only 21mpg and appeared only in 38 games, he wasn't even drafted I think.

Sabonis plays only 15mpg

Besides that, like you said it is easier to put up good numbers at the F spots, there is way more depth and that is why it is more important to have a forward who averages a better fppm. It is easy to fill the other couple of minutes at forward.

PS: Is anyone paying attention to the yahoo league??

The playoffs are about to start and it is some guy called mechimusprime and myself fighting the top spots. It just seems that there are only 4-5 teams actively participating.
