I took a little heat a couple weeks ago for saying the O Line isn’t great. Evan Brown kinda sucks IMO…would love to see Will Hernandez just replace him in a few weeks. There was no where to run and the heat was coming down fast on Kyler.

Of course a win is a win, but what a frustrating game. I hate to see teams take their foot off the pedal, which is exactly what happened when they went up 20-10. I know there could have been more points if that fg attempt wasn’t blocked, but this just ain’t gonna cut it. I hope the locker room was ticked. I think I saw a comment from MHJ saying this effort wasn’t good enough.

They have to beat Carolina next week, no excuses. Not sure if I like that they got embarrassed today, they will be desperate next week, we all know the stats on teams that start out 0-2…They know their season is on the line.

As has been mentioned, the defense so far has not lived up to the hype. Did D Rob make one significant play? Or Sweat? I don’t recall their names being called except for that offsides penalty on D Rob. I thought Spencer mostly looked comfortable in the pocket.

On the bright side, Will Johnson looked mighty comfortable in just his first start. He could absolutely end up being the steal of the draft. And thank God for Blake Gillikin. It’s such a weapon to be able to flip field position.

Yeah have to admit I was a little disappointed in the front seven.

Also zero turnovers (although we were around the ball a lot in pass coverage).

Still, the D only gave up 13 (should have been 16). I guess maybe we should be okay with that Josiah.

Feels
kind of stupid to say “ we got to get over this win”.
On the road, first game, against a new coach and scheme and we are 1-0.
Coming home against another team and we will be favored to win.
Get ready for week 2.

No doubt the oline let Murray down today but he was far from spectacular in the second half and did very little to stop the saints from almost pulling an upset victory- so a game ball is a little much for me

Jonah Williams especially got blown up - he looked awful in pass protection

I saw more penetration from our dline in the run stops especially. Still tho the front 7 lacks juice - only minimally better so far compared to last year despite all that money/capital invested.

Our secondary deserves all the praise - if any one unit shined consistently today it was them. Especially the CB room- welcome to the nfl will Johnson- incredible game

Max Melton deserves a game ball. Saints were targeting him all day and he stood tall.
Only one sack from this edge group, big disappointment and better be resolved when division play starts in week 3.
100% agree on Max. He played well. We should be grateful we have 2 bookend bad ace “mow foe” types.

I’m gonna hold my opinion on the pass rush another week tho. The saints OL is pretty damn good. I think I heard all 5 of them were taken in the first round of their respective drafts.

Overall, the team seems to play the same way they did last year, but I do believe they improved.

Once things click with this team, watch out. They have weapons everywhere- they just need to coordinate their efforts/get on the same page.

I still don’t see Kyler at top 10, but I was encouraged by some of his decisions today. The 15-20 yard sack he took late in the game? I’m so beyond tired of seeing that crap, but I think it comes with the territory/his efforts to escape. I did see some things out of Kyler today that made me happy.

It’s just week 1, but I do think this team is on an upward trajectory (and noticeable). Lots and lots of sloppy ish play still, but I liked the focus.

They’re at least a team I will make time to watch (I checked out around Nov 10ish last year).

Again, don’t care how sloppy it looked. The win is a win. Good teams, like the Bengals look like ass today against a crappy team. The Chiefs look discombobulated. just never know in this league.
yup...we all been working under the assumption that the saints suck ass... but, they got a new coach with something to prove...a decent o line...an undying defensive hall of famer...and every reason to think they will be competing with Tampa for their division crown.
and Spencer Rattler apparently made that second year jump.

if, come december the saints are sitting at 4-10...then we really played a crap game.
But if they are sitting at 9-5...then maybe we played a much better game than we have been thinking.

Im impressed with all the tackles along the front line.
distressed that 3 of the top 5 tacklers are in our secondary.
confused as to how our RB3 got a defensive stop.

remember Barry Sanders?? Dude would have 10 carries for -35 yards at half,...then end the game with 15 carries for 115....dude gave up sooooo much yardage looking for the big score when he could have just hit the hole and got 4 yards..... but Detroit didnt have anything else going...so they let him do his thing. watching Barry run put lots of butts in the stands.
Kyler needs to have those moments though...like Barry had,...those moments when you get the payoff for watching all his crap...every third game is not frequent enough

O-line is a mix of talent and chemistry. It was their first game as a unit. At moments they gave Murray a lot of time. I suspect they will improve each week.
Agree, completely. And, as I've posted they hadn't played meaningful FB in about four weeks.

I have to say I was worried about our corner play coming into this game, and they played the best of any position. That is the bright spot to me.
