The Florida State Seminoles were on a heater in the month of June by landing eight commitments in the 2027 recruiting cycle, highlighted by four-star defensive lineman Sam LeJeune. However, one huge target, four-star safety Ta'Shawn Poole, remains uncommitted.

Once the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder took his official visit to Tallahassee, the Seminoles seemed to have all the momentum until the Georgia Bulldogs came in at the last minute and got an official visit of their own. This has created a massive showdown for Poole as his decision is expected soon.

Georgia has missed out on a few prospects from the Peach State lately to FSU, and stealing Poole at the last minute would be a nice way to get some revenge. However, after Steve Wiltfong of Rivals deemed Florida State the favorite for Poole, Benjamin Wolk of 247Sports has done the same, as he sees FSU as the school with the best chance to land the star safety.

Poole has been trending to Florida State since he visited there in the middle of June, but the inclusion of Georgia on the official visit schedule late added an unexpected wrinkle. The Seminoles still sit in the best shape heading into what's expected to be a mid-July announcement, but this is a recruitment many believe will still have some life heading to December.

When FSU got three-star safety Jemari Foreman to shut down his recruitment, they locked in a playmaker who logged 10 interceptions as a junior. Poole not only amassed 37 tackles and two interceptions as a safety during his junior season, but he also registered 454 receiving yards plus 200 rushing yards and 11 total touchdowns. His ability to make plays with the ball in his hands is a major plus for a defensive back to have, and it would match perfectly with the skill set of Foreman.

Poole has strong ties to Florida State through his aunt, who starred as a basketball player, and also his relationship with Seminoles' safeties coach Evan Cooper, which goes back a few years. This is a critical recruitment for FSU to win, and they need to find a way to close Poole despite a heavyweight like Georgia working to do the same.

The 247Sports composite rankings have Poole as the No. 68 recruit nationally and the No. 5 safety. He's ranked as the No. 5 prospect in the state of Georgia as well.
