So what will it take for people to move off of Nash and Chuck as the greatest suns player? I'm just reading through comments in this thread today, started in 2023.

When can we almost definitively say that Book is the greatest Sun? I loved the Chuck finals, heartbreaking to see them go down. Nash's era was great, some exciting ball with some really high highs, but we never even made it out of the west.

But with just everything Book has done and accomplished with and for this franchise, imo he is the greatest Sun.

Nash was the most impactful player I’ve seen in a Suns uniform. He’ll always be #1 for me. Barkley peaked so high but his time here was brief.

Top-5 among players I saw:

1. Nash
2. Book
3. KJ
4. Chuck
5. Marion

Amare Stoudemire and Tom Chambers have to be in the conversation as well.

Hard to argue with this... perhaps a case can be made to slip Amare in the #5 slot?

Top 10 or top 5?
Definitely top 10 and you can argue maybe #5. I mean Adams still has the Suns records for steals, total rebounds, offensive rebounds, and is number 3 in both points and assists. Davis was the sweetest pure shooter the Suns have ever had (IMO) and Booker just passed him for Total Points not long ago. But Davis played a long time without the 3 pt shot.

Okay, so explain how he was more impactful than Book, in what regards?

We built title contenders around Nash for 6 years. Booker’s great, but CP3 was the engine of the painfully brief title contending years with Book. To really rise to the level of the guys mentioned, he’s got to at least start taking this new era of the Suns to the playoffs consistently.

6 years of title contention without actually making it to the finals one time??? That's some reasoning I cannot get behind.

He was the engine of a multi year contender. Most valuable Sun of all time.

And Steve Nash won NBA Most Valuable Player twice, not that I'm arguing against Devin Booker, but what Nash did was monumental even in the eyes of the NBA.

Okay. I think you’d be in the minority there. I believe a regular 50 game winner that made the Western Conference Finals 3 out of 6 years would be considered a title contender by most fans.

Now, as for reasoning that Boomer belongs on that Suns Mt Rushmore… he’s just off it for me. Booker only making the playoffs 4 times in his entire career and advancing out of the second round 1 times in 11years, and only doing that as a Robin to CP3’s Batman is reason why he doesn’t rate with the KJ/Nash/Barkleys.

He’s at the top of the 2nd tier for me. Book/Amare/Marion/Alvin Adams/Horny/Westphaul.

The majority thinks we were title contenders for 6 years?

2x - 1st round exit
1x - 2nd round exit
3x - conf finals - total, we won 5 games.

More realistically we were contenders for two years, not 6 years of title contention over an 8 year span when we never even got to the finals.

Agree to disagree.

So much this. For me, individually speaking, he might be the best but not overall. Nash made us legit contenders. Instantly adding Barkley made us a contender. Book by himself doesn't make us a contender. He needs lots of help which says to me he is not that player.

That 2nd round exit was probably the best team of all of them, if not for David Stern I think they win it that year. So, yeah, I'd say they were contenders for most of those 6 years, non-contenders during the Shaq seasons.
