A forever family moment these two will never forget.

The Phoenix Suns officially announced on Father’s Day, June 21, that Devin Booker is changing his jersey number from No. 1 to No. 15 to honor his dad, Melvin Booker.

There were multiple reports earlier this week about the number change as the Arizona Republic confirmed the switch June 17.

“This is after Year 11,” Devin Booker said in a video announcement with his father. “By the grace of God, hopefully this is the halfway point of my career. I can do even more and accomplish what I really set out to do and that's win a championship and I hope that's with the No. 15 on my back.”

Sitting across from each other in Flagstaff High School gym with multiple No. 15 jerseys they’ve both worn hanging to the side, along with the new No. 15 Suns jersey, Devin Booker and Melvin Booker shared stories on video about the number’s family significance.

“I’ve been chasing 15 my whole career,” Booker said. “It’s always been a family number. Obviously, you wore it and I looked at you as the blueprint for success. A new chapter to honor you, everything that you’ve done for me. I’m excited about it.”

Melvin Booker wore No. 15 at Moss Point (Miss.) High, where it’s retired, as is Devin Booker’s No. 2. Melvin Booker also wore it while starring at the University of Missouri in the early 1990s and professionally overseas.

Devin Booker sported No. 15 as a kid all the way up to leaving the state of Michigan to live in Moss Point and attend the same high school as his dad.

After wearing No. 2 in high school, Booker switched to No. 1 for his one season at Kentucky and kept it his first 11 NBA seasons with the Suns.

Booker wore No. 15 in winning Olympic gold medals in 2021 in Tokyo and 2024 in Paris.

He’s now going back to the family number.

Melvin Booker couldn’t be prouder to see his son and his No. 15 playing in the NBA.

“It’s an honor for you to represent the family the way you do,” Melvin Booker said while wearing a Suns hat. “You already do a great job, but to put that 15 out there on that stage, it’s going to be amazing to watch this season.”
