That 2nd round exit was probably the best team of all of them, if not for David Stern I think they win it that year. So, yeah, I'd say they were contenders for most of those 6 years, non-contenders during the Shaq seasons.
That is the pain of being a Suns fan since 1976. Even with our greatest players at the top of their games, there was really only one, maybe 2, seasons for each where we had a legitimately great chance at a title.

Once he puts together multiple deep playoff runs. This is his 11th season and he has won a grand total of 5 playoff series. That's not all-time greatness.
The CP3/Book Suns got very fortunate with opposing injuries in the playoffs. The Nash-led Suns had the exact opposite luck. We never played the Spurs, Mavs or Lakers without Duncan, Dirk or Kobe. All while losing Amare, Joe and Raja in both conference finals years.

At the present, he's headed towards being a longer tenured Westphal or a statistically better Dick Van Arsdale. He'll eventually probably be celebrated as the all-time "face" of the franchise, but unless something significant changes, he's not likely to be anymore associated with a "golden age" of Suns basketball than Van was, realistically.

both steve nash and devin booker had plenty of help - both busted their noses in the western conference finals - both took their teams to the finals - nash was better in his prime years but book's done it for 11 years and is still in his prime here with a lot left unwritten - i already got book at #1 but can understand the nash votes

I'd never wear the shoes if I bought any for fear I would get them dirty. They would be sitting somewhere on display.

Book didn’t take the Suns to the Finals any more than Amare took the Suns to the Conference Finals. He was the #2 to CP3’s #1, same Amare was to Nash.

He’s got to be the actual man the team is built around and get that team to some Conference Finals before he gets on the Suns Mt. Rushmore.

Just going to skip over how CP3 was out for the beginning of the WCF, leaving Booker to shoulder the load for the team. Paul and Book were a team. We needed both. Nash was capable of winning without Stat. Book and Paul both struggled without the other.

Book averaged 28 in the finals.

2023 he went for 35.

Stat 0 in the finals, but over his 5 playoff series with the suns about 23 points.

Not sure what the point of the above is? I already said I put Book over Amare on the Suns Mount Rushmore Secondary Star list.

That said, the entire book’s not written on Book yet. He’s got the chance to prove himself a legit #1 now. Amare failed in his attempt in NY before his body totally failed him.

i know a sneakerhead - super reputable dealer who said book went into nike with a pair of kobe's (his favorite shoe) and asked for a bunch of modifications leading to book 1s

some of those might gain good flippable value - a lot of people copped them and planned on shelving them but ended up wearing them

Amare wasn't the same player after the injury. He did a pretty good job adapting his game but not the same player. Amare was a freak of nature and had he never gotten injured I would have bet money he would have led us to a title at some point. The sad thing is they don't even recommend microfrature surgery any longer. Had he gotten that injury today, he likely would have fully recovered instead of having knee cyst problems, putting on more weight which led to back problems. It all cascaded from that original injury. I thought Amare had another gear he had yet to reach before the injury.

I don't know if I feel the same about Book having another gear. I hope I am wrong but this is his chance to prove he is a legit #1 tier player.

The arc that Amare was on thru the 05’ playoffs probably had a scoring title or two in him.
