Erik Bakich has added another key piece through the transfer portal, securing a commitment from former Toledo standout Troy Sudbrook.
The veteran infielder arrives at Clemson with one season of eligibility remaining after putting together an outstanding 2026 campaign for the Rockets. Sudbrook was one of the most productive hitters in college baseball last season, earning first-team All-MAC honors while also being recognized on the conference’s all-defensive team.
A left-handed hitter, Sudbrook started all 60 games for Toledo and finished the year batting .373 with 11 home runs, 71 RBI and 65 runs scored. He also led the entire NCAA with 32 doubles, a category where the Tigers lacked consistent production in 2026, as no Tiger recorded more than 14. In addition to his power, Sudbrook added 13 stolen bases, posted a .665 slugging percentage and drew 30 walks.
His addition addresses a significant need at third base, a position that provided limited offensive production for Clemson this past season. Sudbrook visited campus recently before making his decision, spending time with Bakich and the coaching staff, including assistants Nick Schnabel and Griffin Mazur.
“I am excited to announce my commitment to Clemson University!” Sudbrook wrote on social media. “I want to thank everyone at the University of Toledo for an amazing experience these last four years. With that being said, I am looking forward to my graduate year and next chapter. Go Tigers!”
Over 160 career games at Toledo, Sudbrook hit .305 with 21 home runs, 52 doubles, 139 RBI and 22 stolen bases.
He becomes Clemson’s fourth transfer addition of the current portal cycle, joining catcher/outfielder Bennett Edwards from Georgia Southern, shortstop Isaac Incinelli from St. Johns River State College and right-handed pitcher Landon White from Bryant. Edwards earned Sun Belt All-Freshman Team honors in 2026 after hitting .287 with three home runs, six doubles, 16 RBI, 31 runs scored and nine stolen bases during his first collegiate season.
