what does the rams gm know that nobody else does - sure they've seen him in workouts and on game film and are more familiar with his character than anyone but wth makes ty simpson so special that they'd possibly compromise the trust with their star superbowl winning qb? now they have to extend stafford further than they'd like just to get his mind right but will that do the trick? i sure hope not

This idea that the Rams are putting forth, that they "fooled everyone so they could nab Ty at #13!" is really funny stuff.

One... no one else was remotely considering taking Ty there, they could have traded back at least 10 picks before they had to sweat us or the Jets stupidly trading back into the first.

Two... this supposed subterfuge seems to be a way to explain away McVay's obvious disgust with the pick, but why would he need to keep up the act? They'd already made the pick!

Dumb.

If you watch ML on Rich Eisen yesterday ( I dropped the link in another thread ) he talks about how he laughed at McVays fake outrage and that the Rams loved Simpson when he was still with the team.

I am pretty sure the betting odds had us taking him in the 20s by either trading down or back into the 1st, so they really couldn't take the chance if they liked him as much as being reported.

This keeps getting better. Ty Simpson is now saying he had a "secret meeting" with McVay prior to the draft.

It must be really bad if they are bringing up this still.

McVay will probably be gone when Stafford retires based on all this ********.

The fact that they have pushed this story so much makes it obvious. They even had media surrogates pushing the story.

simpson isn't walking into the same situation beck is - talk about a tough room - stafford is a god - he just got paid to stay god - coach didn't want simpson - fans damn sure didn't want simpson - their gm had all the street cred in the world but he put his nuts on the table when he not only drafted simpson in the first round - but moved up to do it - oof

LOL

Stafford isn't the issue here my man.

Stetson was a 4th round pick and Simpson was a 1st rounder.

Simpson would'nt be beating out Beck who we drafted in the 3rd.

A lot of people here were trying to sell Simpson as something halfway special.

I mean, you’re probably gonna be saying it for about 12 more weeks. Then you’re gonna be saying, “what do I know? I thought Carson Beck was gonna be the best QB in the 2026 draft class”
When the QBs in this class careers have ended , he’ll be the best of the bunch.

That doesn’t guarantee he’s a great player at the end.

It likely says more about this class, but Cards got the best of it.

Can I get a justification for drafting this guy that isn't "If you think he's your guy, you draft him"?

Great size? No

Great arm? No

Speed? No

Accuracy? eeeeeh... no

Stats? Nope

Produces in big games? No... horrifically bad.

Can he beat out Jalen Milroe for a starting job? No

Where on earth is the logic for taking this guy in the 1st outside of pure desperation in a year without quality QB prospects?
