Clemson baseball’s offseason rebuild added another important piece Sunday night.
Toledo transfer Troy Sudbrook announced his commitment to Clemson, becoming the latest portal addition for Erik Bakich and his staff as the Tigers continue reshaping the roster after an ugly 2026 season. Clemson missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2022 and finished near the bottom of the ACC, making this portal window less of a luxury and more of a necessity.
Sudbrook gives the Tigers another experienced bat to work with. The left-handed hitter started all 60 games for Toledo last season and put together a massive year, hitting .373 with 11 home runs, 71 RBIs, 65 runs scored, a .665 slugging percentage and 13 stolen bases. For his career, he is a .305 hitter with 21 home runs and 139 RBIs.
The Tigers have already added former Georgia Southern catcher Bennett Edwards, St. Johns River State College shortstop Isaac Incinelli and Bryant reliever Landon White through the portal. Sudbrook now becomes another piece in a group that is starting to look like a real attempt to rebuild the roster with older, productive players.
Sudbrook also brings defensive experience at third base, where he started throughout his Toledo career. In 2025, he played in 61 games and hit .279 with seven home runs and 50 RBIs while earning CSC Academic All-District honors. He missed the 2024 season because of injury but returned as one of Toledo’s most productive hitters.
After the way 2026 ended, Clemson did not need small tweaks. The Tigers needed real changes. Adding a left-handed bat with Sudbrook’s production is another step toward making sure last season does not repeat itself.

Not just winners on the field, but in the classroom too.
