Didn't watch the game but just peaked at the box score, then decided to check on the INT because the rest of Kyler's numbers looked good...

Yeeeeeeee-ikes.

I am sure it got a lot of talk but wow, that is a doozy of a terrible decision. How on earth does he not see that guy?
I don’t think it was a bad decision. It was a really bad throw more than anything. Pretty sure Kyler said he didn’t have enough on the throw. Better now than when real bullets are flying, but cannot have that come week 1.

We need another RB besides Conner we can use in short yardage. When Conner goes down, it will be a problem.

I think that's the plan with Benson and frankly Dallas is a decent short yardage guy too but yes Conner is on another level on short yardage he just has a knack for not letting the first guy get him.

I just think RB is likely our strongest "room". What I really like is the first 3 guys, JC, Trey and DeMercado are all terrific receivers

Russ Smith - Captain of the Trey Benson bandwagon.

We see you Russ! :)

I'm not saying he's prime Eric Dickerson or something but great size, great speed, has balance and can catch the ball. Still needs to improve but look at what he did 2nd half of last year before he got hurt, 38 carries 210 yards from Oct until he got hurt.

The key for him is stay healthy.

He has home run potential. He has come close a couple of times. Buts it's actually Emari who has flashed that. Emari isn't fast in his 40 times, but he has game speed.

yeah I've been saying since his rookie year if Emari was a bit faster he'd be really good he just has a feel for finding space. I like all 3 of them I think it's a really solid room. If Carter was a better receiver or could play ST he'd be pushing too he's a very good runner

This offense lacks speed and there's where I think Benson has a chance to really help us this year.

And he was over 4 YPC before he had like 3 carries for no gain or a loss because there was no blocking. The play by play was the same on all 3, give to Benson hit immediately breaks a tackle but can't get much. The one he he tried to take all the way left I would blame him he should have just cut that one upfield, 2 of them he was hit 3 yards behind the LOS and either got back to the LOS or gained a yard. Had a 2 yard loss where he was hit right away.

the best run of the night for him was that wicked jump cut left for 8 yards that he nearly broke. and then got called back on 2 penalties. The 20 yard screen pass was excellent.

Looking at the play by play it looks like his last 3 runs were a 4 yard gain a 2 yard loss and a no gain, so he had 6 carries for 27 yards with a 20 yard screen before those carries.

The RB's are not even remotely an issue on this team
Yeah...that jumpcut to the left, he got caught on a shoestring tackle...if not, he was gonna house it...lots of open field...
I expect he will break a couple of those during the season..
Regardless of the attitudes of those who only saw the box scores... Trey Benson is obviously a RB1b....he even lowered the boom and ran through tackles for an extra 3 yards a couple times.
When JC hits his 30wall we will be fine at RB

*co-captain

Last year per google the average YPC for an NFL RB was 4.3 YPC, it doesn't say minimum number of carries so I don't know that. Benson averaged 4.6 and over his last 3 months averaged 5.5.

His issue is he has to prove he can handle more carries, stay healthy and stay consistent

Thanks for posting this it's so nice to hear about the little interactions he has with guys like Dalvin and Josh Sweat and I'm sure Calais is valuable there too. Can't wait to see how the new veterans help the younger guys trajectories over the course of this season and next!

It’s only preseason, with both offenses and defenses playing vanilla schemes. So, I don’t get too jazzed either way. Our running attack has been statistically solid during the Gannon years, but it won’t truly be special until we very consistently succeed in the 3rd & short downs. You know you’ve arrived when the opponent knows you’re running the ball in short yardage & they still can’t stop you. Our OL isn’t there yet in that regard. Exactly why the tush push is such an advantage. If it were the regular season, we would have gone for it on 4th down last night instead of settling for 3. JG just wanted to get Ryland some practice too.

21 yards per game is extremely impressive.

He blew that away. 22.3 yards per game for the season and one of those 13 games he didn't have a single carry . So in the 12 games he had carries 24.25 yards per game.

If you meant the last 3 months, again he only had carries in 8 of them which is 26.25 per game.

No idea who this guy is you're talking about he's not Trey Benson
