Also, Trey McBride isn't out there dropping a bunch of passes from the same QB.
To be fair to their argument . . .mcbride sees the ball a lot so he’s not “rusty” or “disengaged” (that’s their argument, not mine. I don’t buy that for a professional - particularly a young one hoping to make his mark).

There's a thread here somewhere to prove it. Whether they know football, I don't know.
I don’t ever recall McBride dropping wide open passes, failing to out-battle defenders, not running the right routes, or quitting on plays. Whatever the criticism was, it wasn’t the same as what’s being - appropriately - leveled at MHJ. If I recall correctly it was lore “why can’t he beat out old slow ertz.” It wasn’t based on anything we saw on the field.

It was generally that he did nothing and had about 2 targets per game for 15 yards, which is worse I guess.

Yeah it was that he was getting Tip Reiman snap counts (25%) as a second round pick for the first two months of the season.

Once he started playing in November it was pretty clear he was gonna be a good one.

the reality is that Marv is a finesse player

we got very spoiled by Larry and Q -- who had no issue with contact

we got DHop -- who also seemed to relish contact

if those three are 9s on the 1-10 scale of playing through contact on catches -- Marv is currently a 3

second half Marv looked like a 6 or 7. That would be plenty good enough to be a really productive receiver. Lets hope

My memory, such as it is, supports this. I had written a positive view of the McBride pick. I kept asking people to be patient. He got tons of the “wasted pick” posts

Here is the thing. I don't care about the talent of the player you draft, if you aren't going to use that player, it was probably not a good idea to draft them. This goes for a lot of situational, and dependent positions. If you draft a TE in round 2 or 3, they better be getting snaps even if it doesn't come with production.

Look at the Falcons with Pitts. They draft a jumbo TE in Pitts in the first round and then don't play him because he is not a good blocker. The talent is irrelevant at that point because you took a player who you can't play because you need them to do something they can't do.

Pitts was a lazy dude coasting on elite athleticism, athleticism that he permanently lost after a knee injury in year 2. After that he was a TE who can't block, can't get open in the passing game, and he half asses most every other play. Every coach and QB Pitt's has had since year 1 has been subtly referencing his terrible work ethic in off season interviews. Even milquetoast Kirk Cousins was basically asking him to stop running his routes half speed.

Jonnu Smith has proven to be a better player than Pitts on multiple teams. Last year Pitts lost out to Ray-Ray McCloud in the target pecking order because of how bad he was. Pitt's is starting to look somewhat serviceable (still a shadow of what he was), in what do you know, a contract year.

I get that wasn't your point, I just explode at anything that can be interpreted as Pitts apologism. MHJ isn't Kyle Pitts of course, I think he's going to see his targets go up in the next few weeks. But when a player isnt performing adequately, the only real way to force it to them is the Rondale Moore screen game.

This is amazing slander with nary a link to support it

Haley - "It’s a game of confidence, especially at that position. A lot of guys do push-ups if they drop the ball, blah, blah, blah, but that’s college stuff. "I took the pressure off because I said, ‘The ball is going to keep coming to you. If you drop one, no big deal. What I want you to do is catch the critical ones – like the touchdown he caught – when the nuts are on the line. Make that play.'"

He looks so smooth still explosive. Not sure whats been going on.

He looks great in drills but in real games he's not playing fast because he has to think instead of just playing.

The good thing about marv is as many issues as he's had, he has played 23 games and has 10 TDs. He's probably dropped 4 or 5 more so he CAN be a guy who can be a double digit TD guy

I really believe this front office and coaching staff have done MHJ no favors

for all the attribution to Kyler on not vibing with him or targeting him: that didnt seem to be a problem with Hopkins who got like 20 targets in his debut. Or even scubs like Antoine Wesley or Pharoh Cooper didnt seem to have an issue catching fades from Kyler.

I think Drew runs an offense where the direction to the QB is: IF you see this, THEN the ball goes here. period.
Drew basically says that.

If all that's true K1 should be screaming from the mountain top. Can't imagine an OC would handcuff his QB like that. Unless they know he can't read a defense on his own or he's just not capable of being an NFL QB

Thing is...kyler is the franchise...if The Petzing is calling crap plays then kyler needs to audible to a betterr play at the los...the worst thing The Petzing can do is bench him...
then, kyler goes to mike, as his 40mil a year...and says, "I have the talent to put up 40 points a game...but this OC is calling a high school offense...dude has to go"
9/10 nfl owners will side with their 40mil #1 overrall pick franchise QB unless they have an OC that maybe won 4 super bowls in his previous job
but The Petzing.....is from cleveland
and if JG stands for drew...quietly remember that Phillys defense, while being the reason they made the SB, was also the reason they lost...and as soon as JG was gone...Philly collected a Lombardi while making the chiefs dynasty look like a pop warner offense.

This game proves why MHJ has had a slowish start to his NFL career.
