It looks like he's been reading this thread

It's less of a priority, but I would like to see MHJ use that increased size and strength to be a little more effective blocker. Knock a few CBs and maybe the odd LB on their backsides.

What's I'm really hoping for is that he breaks a few tackles this year, and can become more of a YAC guy.

I hope so, you really can't be a true star without that type of skillset. The issue with hoping for a big change in his physicality is he was already incredibly strong last year. He could bench 380 in college, he's always been physically huge/put up huge weight room numbers, yet he's always been a finesse player.

I found this writeup on MHJ from an amateur scout on reddit from before the 2024 draft. He absolutely nailed the downsides (while still not picking up on Nabers being better).

Fitz took years before his blocking skills were honed.

Do people think the muscle definition is an end unto itself, or just a symptom of MHJ grinding in the first six months of the offseason. Like, what do bigger biceps actually mean to you with regard to how he plays?

We need more hate to fuel the chip on Marv's shoulder.

Here's Puka showing better body control than Marv (the one "elite" trait Marv has).
xc_hide_links_from_guests_guests_error_hide_media

Puka had 12 receptions, 162 yards and a TD in this victory vs. the Bills. This Bills team held Marv to 1 reception and 4 yards.

Puka was also the 4th best receiver vs. man coverage and the best receiver in the league vs. zone. Puka is a top 5 WR and its not because of McVay, he's an undeniable talent. Can MHJ become that?

C'mon Marv, feel the doubt, let it fuel you!

I get he's building muscles

What about the hands?

Most critical when catching passes

Work on your hands also MHJ

The thing is a big issue he had last year was strength. Many of those 50/50 balls he didn't catch were because he got bodied off the ball or couldn't hold the defender off, he should be better at that this year.

Do I also hope he's been hitting the jump rope to get quicker absolutely, I want to see him avoid a tackle and get extra yards, but the muscle does show he's dedicated.

Good article on Marvin.

I'm barely into it and already calling BS. Just a few sentences in it says "he only dropped one pass", huh? Dude had more than one drop in a couple of different games. I know official drop stats are different but he definitely had more than one drop last year

My biggest takeaway is that he is not satisfied with last year other than playing almost every game. It's nice to have a player who puts up 800+ his rookie season and says it wasn't a successful season.

this place is hilarious during the off season

call.him charmin then mock the work - acting like he's only packing on useless beach muscles when he's a professional being trained by strength and conditioning professionals - if he's that jacked he did it the right way - not no 1,000 prison push ups a day - worked on his vertical and his pull away strength - you know - just giving it 110% during the off season - that's all - so soft

Is this a published report or are you just assuming that based on these photos?

Maybe he felt like he was beaten a few times for contested catches and wants more strength there. That is really the only reason I can think of.

This was Hopkins coming out of college

I thought too many times MHJ’s ability to be in the right spot at the right time was lacking. It’s important to note there could be a multitude of reasons why that is.

Being unfamiliar with the playbook.

Running the wrong route based on the coverage.

Not understanding how to adjust his route based on CB’s positioning.

Not being on the same page with his QB.

Understanding the quality of CBs in the NFL.

Knowing the tendencies of the cover CB.

I’m expecting improvement in MHJ this year and being stronger will only help his growth.
