I've submitted a couple of proposals to the NFL. I'll let you know if I get any feedback.
I'm not a fan of the present set-up in regards to field goals playing such a significant factor in the outcome of games. I proposed two things:
First of all, the idea of giving different point values for field goal distance has been discussed, so that's not new. But what is, is this:
First of all have the goal posts become variable width, depending on the distance of the field goal. They automatically move in or out based on the length as determined by the line of scrimmage.
Then the head coach can also "wager" the number of points that the field goal would be worth. For instance, he could "bet" up to say 5 points for a 45 yarder. If the teams makes it he gets 5 points. if he misses it, he gets 5 points deducted from his teams score.
There's a lot more to my proposal, but it's in the hands of the NFL right now.
Comments?
