If you’re trying to win, Jimmy G is a better starting qb than brissett. Let’s be realistic.
Swap their career paths, I think Brissett is right there with Jimmy G. That said, neither is ideal. But Jimmy G is as bad an option as starter. Jeebus. I cant believe Im defending going with JB over JG. Good times!

The apologist getting upset? Some options are better than others. So if he is a Chiefs backup he is good? Talk about laughable. Chief fans are laughing at our signing him. Remember they have a starter and we don’t. Good to know you are good with another tank year. So pathetic.
Post some links on those fans laughing at us. Because all I see from fans of the teams Menshew has played for, telling us to get ready for a wild ride because Menshew Mania is coming to the desert...and folks saying we got one hell of a backup QB.
Maybe your twitterX algorithm is different from mine.

This is an entertainment business right?
Youre not entertained by all this? Pfffft. You must still be hung up on finding entertainment in actually winning. Not the schadenfreude the Cardinals bring every year.

Maybe the most entertaining thing for me is watching everyones face when I tell them I root for this hunk o junk organization. Go Cards?

The big disappointment for most was the failure to sign Willis and not everybody is disappointed with that.
Not to me. That big disappointment is that they are not trying. I agree that the rest of the signings have been okay, but it is a quarterback league. You cannot win consistently without a proper quarterback, and I think that Brissett and Minshew has proven multiple times that they are not good enough. I would sign up for pretty much anything that had a small chance of success (McCarthy, Richardson, Zach Wilson, etc.), but de facto status quo is not acceptable to me.

Now, as Stout pointed out, if LaFleur has asked specifically for Brissett and Minshew, then I am okay with it and want to give it a shot. That just seems unlikely to me.

Im not sure how the narrative that Richardson has ANY potential holds water. One can HOPE he has potential, but he hasnt shown anything that suggests there some secret unlock code for him.
You are absolutely right, but ”hope” is the important word. Right now I have no hope.

Sucks, doesnt it. This year is the first, and hopefully the last, (freakin hope. Jeez) that I openly tell friends that I wish I could just walk away from this team. WHY CANT I JUST WALK AWAY????

The Quarterback market really isn't that great to begin with. Teams only allocate a certain amount of dollars for each position based on what they see fit for their roster. Having Murray's cap hit definitely hurts this allocation. A bridge quarterback was the best case scenario, if free agency was the answer. To me, Willis has such a small sample size of work for the Cardinals to take the financial risk of signing him. If he were to sign here and not pan out, then it would prolong a setback. It's early so there are a lot of potential things that can play out. I wouldn't be shocked if Cardinals move back up in the first to get their guy. I would rather add pieces around the team, and revisit the qb position in 2027. Cardinals aren't a QB away from the Super Bowl, other pieces are needed. Let's pick up some of those now.
agree...we had zero valid options.

as for the draft.... if they see a guy they want...dont trade up from 34, trade back from 3...I aint a Simpson fan, just like I wasnt a Rosen fan... but if he is worthy then pick him in the top ten...rumors say McVey may jump out on a limb and draft him at 12..also have seen rumors of other teams going after Simpson in the top 20..so trade back from three to the 8-10 range...draft your QB in the top 10,...then get your RT with pick 34...in honesty, use whatever you get from trading back, and move up from 34 to 28 or so to make sure we get a solid RT.... Big Max from ASWho would be my choice in that scenario...Dude is way inexperienced, but his untapped talent gives him a nuclear ceiling.

Then with our third pick... get in position to get either Ioane from Penn state or Bisontis from Texas A&M.... both of these guys would be a serious bargain with the first pick in round three... but honestly may not still be on the board...if they are both gone, Gennings Dunker from Iowa is a solid choice who also has OG/OT flexibility so you can pencil him in as the RG but as he learns the pro game he can cevelop into a guy who at the least does spot time at RT and possibly even stays on the outside as a pro... his foot speed limitations lower his pro projections as an OT, but some guys overcome those issues when they develop...but even if he doesnt, the kid should be a top 30 OG in a few years

another option in the third...or 4th if we get really lucky...is a flyer on a basically wasted rookie season.
Connor Lew, OC, Auburn....badazz center that suffered an ACL mid season last year... but we have Frodo so we dont need a guy to play right away. This kid is projected to develop into a top 5 NFL Center... but with 2026 basically being a wash many teams will pass on kim.... although we do need guys who can help the team compete now...we can afford a pick to sit for a year right now since 2026 isnt going anywhere anyway.

Yeah, so I would basically drop the entire meat of our draft on offense this year... if we came out of the first four rounds with...

Simpson (QB)
Ihaenichor(?)(RT)
Ioane(OG)
Lew(OC)

I would be pretty thrilled with the prospects... then in the 5th get an athletic ILB with some length and fill out the draft with a couple DT's

I have thought the same. Already many times, actually. Why can't I just follow another, well-run team that are playing meaningful games at least until Christmas? I don't think that is too much to wish for. It would be so much more joyful. But no. We are cursed. Doomed to follow a perennial loser team until the end of time.

The Chiefs starter is going to be injured most of the year and they didn't attempt to sign their current backup. Maybe it's not as good as it gets. You don't think Minshew would've stayed in KC if he had the chance? They didn't want him.

I mean, the talk is that Mahomes will be ready for week one. And maybe the Cards simply offered him a little more to be a backup?

That seems more plausible than what you imagined.

The problem is locking in to Jacoby Brissett as your week 1 starter for as long as your can bear the pain.

When you can’t bear the pain anymore, you have to turn to… Gardner Minshew.

It’s just loser mentality and Total Quit all the way down.

As was repeated multiple times in the weeks leading up to today, it doesn’t take a lot of imagination to think there’s some upside in Anthony Richardson, Trey Lance, Zach Wilson, or JJ McCarthy.

It’s impossible to do that with Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew.

Still waiting for your better alternative that would definitely get us more wins.

I don't really agree here. I think they are basically the same tier, great backup, meh starter.

I think the plan is absolutely Brissett, Minshew, and a rookie. I think the Cardinals absolutely have to look at trading up for Simpson, but again, if the cost is too great that could hurt your ability to move up next year for a likely better QB class.

So understand that belief, it might be better to just see if Simpson drops.

No. There's nothing realistic about that. JB just has a 3300 yard, 280 yard per game 23/8 season.

Jimmy G hasn't started since 2023 when he was dropped after 7 games for throwing 9 INTs vs 7 TDs for 172 YPG.

Wishcasting.

One doesn’t have to be better than double digit win teams to be better than a 3 win team. Youre creating a false threshold of measurement.

So what your saying is that we should spend money on a different starting QB so we can go 5-12 instead of 3-14 and miss out of drafting a top QB in 2027?

Explain that to me.

Im not sure how the narrative that Richardson has ANY potential holds water. One can HOPE he has potential, but he hasnt shown anything that suggests there some secret unlock code for him.

Richardson has some elite traits when it comes to size, speed, arm strength. His NFL highlights are otherworldly. People seem to forget tho that these Shanahan coaches aren’t as traits-focused as many would like.

They’re all looking for a Matt Ryan/Kirk Cousins/Carson Palmer type. That’s one reason to have some hope on Brissett if he stays: he’s got an adequate arm, isn’t afraid to take a hit, and is happy to turn his back on play-action.

I mean, the talk is that Mahomes will be ready for week one. And maybe the Cards simply offered him a little more to be a backup?

That seems more plausible than what you imagined.

This is pretty rich coming from a guy who insists that these guys are competitors and money isn’t their only concern every time the Cards miss on a free agent.

There’s nothing definite in the NFL. I’ve explained multiple times my POV on the QB situation. Get over yourself.

It would be a huge mistake to draft a high pick rookie this year with the intention of them being the future starter, when we are going to be picking high in 2027 with better options.

It would make sense to draft one of the guys that people are doubting, such as Nussmeier or Allar in the 3rd or 4th in the hope that they can develop this year and you get lucky. At worse, maybe you have your future backup, at best maybe one of then really is great.

They should do that. But if Monti burns a high pick on a high variance risk like Simpson when we're picking top 5 in 2027 then he should be fired.

More fantasy. Not remotely what I have said. I've said that money isn't the only concern. A player isn't going to choose the Cardinals at $15m per over the Eagles at $14m per. There are several factors, and money is a major one, but not the only one. Maybe in future try winning arguments without making things up.

There has never been anything more definite in the NFL than all QB options on the markets finish us 4th in the division next year. If you think otherwise I need you to explain who and how, and if not, I need you to explain why it matters.

I find it hard to believe that our new coach, who is an offensive coordinator, was not part and parcel of every off-season decision that has been made regarding our QB position. The more reasonable assumption to me is that LaFleur has specifically supported the plan to start Brissett this season.

I would have been excited to get Willis. According to reports we tried. Willis may have made up his mind when Hatley was hired.
Many blast Brissett Pooh poohing his 23 td and 8 int’s. as padded stats. A lot of us has argued imagine if the o-line was better and we actually had rb’s and a run game.
We hope ML’s offensive scheme helps all involved.
It appears Monti reads this board. Most here were asking for another RB, check. Most were asking for another WR to replace Jones, check. We all hoped we weren’t heading into next season with Slovis as a our backup qb, check.
However, none of this has set off fireworks. Willis would have created a buzz. Honestly, imo there wasn’t another qb that would of added excitement. Garrapolo? Cousins? Levis? Lance? Smith? No thank you.

Obviously holes were filled albeit with unglamorous names. I think we trade down for a huge return of picks. We will either parlay some of those picks to move up for Simpson or we save those picks to move up for a qb in 2027.
Now it will be the Cardinals luck that Murray goes to the Vikings and they meet the Dolphins in the Super Bowl. :)

Probably. I'm imagining him looking around the league and saying "ick" to the available options, so he took the best of what he considered bad choices.

Right after this in a post you say this: A player isn't going to choose the Cardinals at $15m per over the Eagles at $14m per.

You're great at double talk to support your points.

Do you think he also supported the failed efforts to recruit Malik Willis and Jimmy Garappolo? How do you reconcile this with a plan to start Brissett today?

Ultimately, MLF is a first year head coach and one voice among many. Michael makes the ultimate decision and I’m guessing Monti somehow is still running strategy.

And with Mikey saying “You only have 5-10 million to offer.”

Pure speculation, but my guess is that LaFleur agreed with a plan to pursue Willis up to certain contract maximum dollar figure. I can't even venture a guess as to what happened with Jimmy G. Maybe again it was an agreed upon limitation on the contract dollars?
