The plan is becoming clear.
Shop around but we can live with Brissett.
Can’t go into a season with Slovis as our backup. Minshew is very similar to us signing Brissett to back up Murray.
Add to the o- line. We did. Enough? Not yet.
Add to the rb room. We now have a new #1 rb. We are not hoping Connor can return the form and no Pressure to over use Connor even if he’s 100%.
Add a receiver who is an upgrade ( imo) than Jones.

Now this all screams trade down. Depending how far down we could trade #3 (swap) pick up a 2027 first round pick and more.
We could use the extra picks to move up to grab Simpson( maybe). However, there will be some quality players on both lines.

At least we didn’t wait until next week to sign a player. However, if we do nothing else in free agency of notoriety, it will be an epic failure.
This screams tank job.

Explain. At this point what else were you expecting.
The big disappointment for most was the failure to sign Willis and not everybody is disappointed with that.
Minshew is a back up and much better than Slovis.
Algiers fills a big need without knowing if Connor is still Connor.
Bourne is an upgrade over Jones.
We added to the o-line with what most media rated him a top guard.

I still think we should and can do more. But we’ve done worse in free agency.

Oh right. Tell me, which starter level QB's are known to be available for trade right now?

I'm asking for all the QB needy teams.

There is nobody available for trade, all FA options get us a different version of 4th in the league and the odds of hitting on a QB that can start next year are a million to one.

But I'm all ears for your plan. Who should we trade for that's available? Which FA gets us off 4th in the division? Which draft pick can start right away and make us better than the Rams, Niners and Seahawks?
One doesn’t have to be better than double digit win teams to be better than a 3 win team. Youre creating a false threshold of measurement.

If you’re trying to win, Jimmy G is a better starting qb than brissett. Let’s be realistic.
Would Jimmy G really move the needle for you and make you hopeful about this season?? Of course not. So why get stuck with cap ramifications beyond this year?

I was with @kerouac9 on taking a high variance swing this year. I would've been interested to see whether Willis' small sample size was legit, or whether a mid round rookie QB showed promise... but if not, wouldn't want to be stuck with anyone or any dead money beyond next year, when I'd like to see a 1st round-worthy QB get a shot to be a franchise QB.

I don't think any of the other available vet QBs offers much upside over Brissett, so my disappointment this week comes from not being able to land Willis. In no way does the signing of Minshew make things worse, and in no way would adding Cousins, Garoppolo, Richardson, Wilson, Smith, or anyone else have made me feel any better.

Personally, I am okay with the tank. I am all in on losing every game, compiling picks, and trading up for the best QB in next years draft.

That said, what im actually responding to, is the argument that Monti had no options to improve the team. If you believe the team should try winning - and obviously a lot of fans here do - Brissett/minshew is a joke. You know that. I know that. Even Brit actually knows that if he digs deep down. Jimmy G gives them a chance, maybe only a chance to win 5-6 games. Maybe 7. But more than brissett/minshew. And the high variance options are a legit option as well. We’ve seen the rehabilitation work with Danny dimes and darnold pay huge dividends. But brissett/minshew? That’s not even trying that’s tanking. Twice in four years. And I don’t think ossenfort has earned that latitude. Heck, I don’t think ANY GM should be allowed to tank twice in four years. It’s insane.

Mid 70's.
Sorry. I can totally see how the tanks get worse with age. My pops is mid-80s. I feel bad that he shifted from the bears to the cardinals in 88 when the cards move to az and he became a season ticket holder.

I get it. You and your brother live in LA and could easily be LA, Lakers, and Dodgers fans. But you both are Dbacks/Suns/Cardinals fans. I always thought it was because of your Pops. You are doing right by him. My son says the same about me.

Trust me, it means a lot to him.

Bruh we literally did this three years ago and were bad and the dude we tanked for is mid AF.

The Seahawks won the Super Bowl and haven’t won fewer than seven games in a season since 2009.

This is an entertainment business right?

Who is going to be bad enough to draft ahead of us but not need a QB as much or more? Is there a path to accumulating more 2027 draft capital than the Jets already have?

So Minshew issue aside, do you believe they should try to improve this offseason? The signings so far are hurting the tank. Correct? Even if this is the way to go I agree having the guy that put us here attempt to dig us out AGAIN is insane. We agree on that.

He raised us. But it’s odd that he switched his allegiances (he grew up in Chicago) from all chitown teams to az teams. We never could change our allegiances. But I think a difference was we had the four us (cheese, pops, brother-who-shall-not-post and me), whereas our pop really had no one (lost our grandfather when he was 16 and our uncle wasn’t into sports). So we anchored sharing something with the four us, he didn’t have that anchor. Never thought that all the way through before. That was kind of cool. Good talk.

Hopefully next year has more QBs emerge. The reality is we’ve only ever been “good” when we had a high level QB. They don’t usually become available and when they do it’s not often the Cardinals getting them. The path to decency for this team is lucking out and getting a top qb in the draft. I’m saying that’s the only way to relevancy, I’m saying that’s likely the only way for a historically organization like the cardinals.

Also, when you’re going to suck - and trust me, there’s not much we could do THIS offseason to not suck - it actually becomes more entertaining to root for losses and draft selection. Ideally you watch the young guys improve but still lose. When you’re going to suck, REALLY SUCK.

While I’m not of the mindset that 90% of a team’s success is predicated on the QB like Brit, I think enough of it is that these moves won’t materially move the needle. Our QB went 1-12 last year. We’ve added an effective plodder at rb, a good older guard and journeymen OL and journeyman third receiver and journeyman DL. That ain’t breaking the tank.

I think you are right, Krang. I really do. I don't think that Richardson will be any good. However, I could be wrong. At least Richardson has a ton of potential, so the slight chance that LaFleur could work some magic would give me just a tiny thing to look forward to finding out. Now I feel like I have nothing to look forward to.
Im not sure how the narrative that Richardson has ANY potential holds water. One can HOPE he has potential, but he hasnt shown anything that suggests there some secret unlock code for him.
