He’s not coming back here. Would you?

Adams would come back in a split second. There are only 32 head coaching jobs. If you get one offered, you take it.

Anyway, I like Harry’s idea of Robert Saleh. I have always liked him, and it also attracts me to get someone from the division (same for a potential new GM, by the way).

Klint Kubiak would be interesting, though he probably is a little too inexperienced.

Mike LaFleur is kind of in the same boat.

Joe Brady should absolutely be at least a candidate.

Jesse Minter have had big success at first Michigan and now the Chargers.

Probably need to wait at least one more year before we will know. I don’t believe Gannon will be fired this year and probably not next year. Although he may get fired sometime during next season.

No change at head coach until Murray leaves IMO.

Just remembered, I wanted the Cards to go after Jim Harbaugh when they decided on Gannon. How long did it take him to turns thing around? Wilkes to KK to Gannon might be the worst trifecta of coaches hired by 1 team.
Harbaugh was dying to get back into the NFL. No doubt in my mind, he'd have accepted an offer.

Nothing else makes sense. He was coaching a year later.
In his own words, BA said he was retiring to spend more time with family, especially his son who he was shocked to realize had recently turned 40 years old.

I guess a year of being close to his family was enough for BA. :D

incorrect

Harbaugh would never goto Arizona. He wants control, the opposite of what Mike Bidwill allows

Then why was Sean Payton in the mix? You don't think he wants a huge say in things?

If the Cards dip into the collegiate market, the guy they should target is Dan Lanning from the University of Oregon. He was Saban’s recommendation to replace him at Alabama.
Would love taking a risk on him. He was great at Georgia before he got the gig at Oregon. Proven winner.

Cardinals next HC....

This could be the thread that knocks the Kyler debate thread off the top.
It may take longer but the Kyler thread will eventually end...this one could go on and on and on...LOL

With the firing of Callahan, The Athletic's Scoop City newsletter today had a lot of content on 2026 coaching candidates and their potential landing spots.

Under "Teams in Need" they listed:
  • 1. Dolphins
  • 2. Cardinals (2-4): It's year three of Jonathan Gannon's tenure, and Arizona is still outside the playoff picture. Their Kyler Murray question is unanswered, and their upcoming schedule is one of the league's toughest, starting with Green Bay this week. Expect continued regression from last year's nine-win season.
  • 3. Giants
  • 4. Bengals
  • 5. Browns
Under "Top Candidates", they had:
  • Kliff Kingsbury deserves significant credit for tailoring an offense around 2024 Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, and the Titans and Giants might picture Kingsbury doing the same for their current rookie quarterbacks. Notably, the former 28-37 Cardinals HC refused interview requests last offseason.
  • Mike McCarthy, currently between gigs, offers a high-floor option for a team seeking stability and should be the top target for Tennessee and Arizona. Don't forget, Super Bowl champ McCarthy went 125-77-2 in 13 seasons with the Packers and 49-35 in five with the Cowboys.
  • Steve Spagnuolo. Is this the year?! The Chiefs' longtime DC seems open to a head-coaching chance – he interviewed with the Jets in January — and could get a non-Jets shot in 2026. The defense-needy Bengals would be an interesting fit.
  • Jeff Hafley. The Packers' 46-year-old coordinator has immediately improved their defense into one of the league's elite units. If the former Boston College head coach can pair with a strong offensive coordinator, he fits with the Giants, Bengals or Cardinals.
  • Jesse Minter. A longtime member of the Harbaugh coaching tree, working with Jim since 2022 and John from 2017-2020, the Chargers defensive coordinator might sit behind only Hafley on the short list of potential first-timers.
Jeff Howe had a more complete article listing top head-coach candidates for 2026, which I may summarize if I get a chance.

Except for Hafley, that's a terrible list of coaching options. And Hafley is a defensive minded coach. The next Cards HC should be from the offensive side of the ball.

He is certainly an interesting option, Daves. I think he was the assistant head coach with the Ravens in some of Lamar Jackson’s best seasons. I also remember him as a very good OC for Andrew Luck at Stanford.

One thing that makes me wonder a bit is that when Jim Harbaugh got ill during a game last season, it was Jesse Minter, and not Roman, that briefly took over as interim head coach. It might not mean anything at all. It just makes me think.
