ASFN family… I’m a lurker more than a poster but my brother and I have been on this site since the early 2000s. So most of you don’t know me but hopefully that will change along with my transition off of active duty (33 years) and back into the civilian sector.
A few weeks back I asked Darren in mailbag what it would take to get my retirement flag flown as State Farm… and the team (Lacey Probst) took it from there.
My flag was flown on 3 of my ships, at 3 of my commands and here at Navy HQ (in the Washington Navy Yard), along with a stop at State Farm.
I thought it was a large flag (9’ X 5’) but the Cardinals facilities team had to rig a set-up that was for a flag 3X larger to get my flag above the stadium. It flew solo for 2 days (to try and catch the wind) and they sent some awesome photos.
My 3-Star (and long-time mentor), VADM Jom Downey will present it to my kids at my retirement ceremony on the 22nd of May. And we already have a huge flag pole at the place we bought in Minnesota to hang it.
So despite our favorite past time of bashing the organization, their support and willingness to go above and beyond for our vets must be acknowledged.
Just wanted to share this with you all. And, hopefully soon, my 17 year old and I will start showing up at games and we might have the fortune of meeting some of you face-to-face.
Until then, take care. And go cards!!
