Former NFL MVP Cam Newton did not hold back when reacting to a recent speech by New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh.
On his 4th&1 podcast, Newton criticized a clip of Harbaugh repeatedly shouting "New York Giants" in an effort to fire up players and staff during an early offseason meeting.
"Harbaugh, take your behind back to Baltimore," Newton said. "These are professionals. We want the vision. We want the mission. What are we going to be known for from our leader as a coach? What are we going to be known for? This ain’t about those New York Giants, huh?"
The video, released by the Giants as part of their Giants Life: The Offseason series, showed Harbaugh attempting to generate energy, but the response from those in the room fell short of matching his intensity. The moment quickly drew mixed online reactions.
Newton’s comments arrive amid broader external scrutiny of the franchise. Stephen A. Smith recently labeled the Giants a "laughingstock," pointing to years of underperformance and the optics of the viral speech.
Yet inside the building, the reception has differed. Players have repeatedly praised Harbaugh’s messaging. Linebacker Tremaine Edmunds highlighted the coach’s daily "nuggets" on football and life, noting how the approach makes players "want to play ten times harder."
Harbaugh, a Super Bowl winner with nearly two decades of head-coaching experience, continues to install his program as training camp approaches.
