The Binghamton Rumble Ponies are headed to the Eastern League championship series after sweeping the Somerset Patriots in the best-of-three Northeast Division series Sept. 18 at Mirabito Stadium.

Binghamton secured the series with a 5-4 home victory Thursday night and will face either the Erie Seawolves or Altoona Curve in the best-of-three championship series.

Game 1 is scheduled for 4:05 p.m. Sunday, June 21 at Mirabito Stadium. Game 2 is set for Sept. 23 at Erie or Altoona, with Game 3 also at one of those sites Sept. 24 if needed.

Erie forced a deciding Game 3 in the Southwest Division series with a 6-1 victory on Thursday. Altoona took Tuesday's opener, 11-5. Game 3 is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Sept. 19 at Erie.

The Seawolves have won the last two Eastern League titles, including a 2-0 series win over Binghamton in 2023.

Binghamton's last title came in 2014, which followed championships in 1992 and 1994.

The Rumble Ponies' 90-46 regular-season record this season gave them the third-best winning percentage in Minor League Baseball.

How Rumble Ponies advanced

Binghamton, Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets, scored two runs in the third inning and three in the fifth Thursday, then held on after the Patriots put together a four-run seventh.

Ryan Lambert put the series away by pitching a perfect ninth that included one strikeout. He also notched a save in a 3-1 victory in Tuesday's opener.

Binghamton starter Jack Wenninger went the first six innings and gave up a hit and a walk while striking out nine.

A.J. Ewing paced the Rumble Ponies' offense with a triple, single, two RBIs and run.
