Suns trade for Center Mark Williams

I'm probably the only one that likes this

Nope. I like it too. For one reason. Not because he was healthy. Not because I trust him to be healthy. Because this team was night and day difference with him on the court. Unless you can find someone better (which I doubt they can with no assets) or until Man-Man is ready (which the Suns obviously don't think he will be anytime soon to start)......this makes sense to me.

If he stays healthy that contract is a bargain. If it's more of the same, he didn't break the bank and could an attractive expiring contract soon.

Let's say Man-Man has a breakthrough? I can't think of a better backup. A guy who is starting material who now is only coming off the bench which increases his chances of staying healthy.

I like this deal. He was a game changer for us and we're paying him the MLE, basically. The difference in our level of play between him and Oso was huge as well. Our season basically fell apart along with his health and maybe the team learned how to better handle that.

3 year is not ideal but he is a good player when healthy and expecting Manman to start earning playing time. Love that we can keep both for now.

To me, it seems the Suns are just doubling down on faulty assumptions: A) that Ott's "system" is in any way special and didn't actually fall apart in the second half of last year when teams adjusted to it, and B) that running out a roster that's largely dependent on guys who are perennially injury prone isn't a recipe for disaster.

To be fair, Green had not had a history of injury prior to the Suns. Was he worth us winning 3-4 more games? Maybe. He just was never on the floor enough to find out. Booker is going to get his hammies rested every year from now on. That's just the way it is. Probably going to transition minutes away from Williams, hopefully, too. I think the injury thing is going to fix itself in time. A Grayson Allen trade helps with that, also.

If you look at out team roster now, we have a chunk of really young guys on this team. We don't realize it because Ott is playing all the old guys, except Oso, and on occasion Dunn. There has to be a transition to getting more of the young squad on the court. Hopefully this year we see some of that. If so injuries should be less of a problem. Here's to rosy optimism.

If we get more of the first quarter of the season Mark Williams, his play was really good prior to December 5th, as a back up player who can play less minutes, we will have the best back up center in the league. They really need to get Man Man more minutes, keep Oso playing small ball center, and give Williams filler minutes until we can build him up physically. It's that dreaded word potential. If healthy, Williams has the potential to be a real impact player. He started last season looking like a bargain. I think he was nursing that foot or something else the last three quarters of the season, because he never looked the same.

i had it all wrong - i thought williams was gone - not thought - i was almost sure of it - i could blame ish for the "no load management" comment but nah - i just had this wrong

i get it tho - we don't win 45 games without mark williams last season - he's a sprinter - a finisher and a rim defender - more than that he doesn't leave his man completely to go help gillespie - he understands being where he's supposed to be is what ott's system is all about

we go at book for playing hero ball on offense but the same thing happens on defense - nba offenses exploit heroes but mark williams stays in his lane - literally - until it's time help at the rim

the bookmark does wonders for book - defenses have to respect williams coming off the pick and roll or they're dunzo - when defenses respect the bookmark it opens everything up

but it all comes down to the foot right? and what we know now - everything was gravy until we asked mark williams to play back to backs - and once that foot is bad it's bad for awhile - we have to baby that foot anytime it's acting up

this means missing games but fortunately - for mark williams and the phoenix suns - maluach needs more time - idk about 3 years lol but it is what it is - and if teams see the foot can be managed mark williams should be easy enough to move but we might not want to

my biggest worry is if oso or maluach miss time - we'll still have to give williams a day's rest after every game he plays regardless - leaving us with only 1 available center

but again - williams makes it all work - we didn't overpay and we know more now - happy to have him

i think we kept pushing last year trying to find the limits on what williams could handle - once we found out it was too late and we found when we needed him most - we just have to give williams the morning after chill

It's not load management if it is a necessity and time proved it was a necessity to allow Williams to sit.
