Major League Baseball's 2026 Opening Day is in the books, and the minor leagues won't be far behind as clear skies and warmer temperatures are a clear indication that summer is around the corner with the start of a new baseball season.

Broome County Executive Jason Garnar joined representatives from Clear Path for Veterans and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets, at Mirabito Stadium on March 26 to announce another year of providing free tickets for veterans.

Tickets for the 2026 Rumble Ponies games are made possible through the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Peer-to-Peer program, which is supported through a grant provided by the Broome County Mental Health Department.

Garnar described Broome County as "unique" when it comes to supporting veterans on a community level. A small percentage is taken from residential mortgage payments to contribute to the Broome County Veteran Fund. The money collected supports the Veterans Resource Center, honor flights, Black Bears game tickets, Cornell Cooperative Extension cooking classes and other programs for Broome County veterans.

The first 1,000 tickets will be funded by Broome County and Clear Path for Veterans and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies will contribute the remaining 250 tickets, for a total of 1,250 tickets.

"For us, an opportunity like this with the Binghamton Rumble Ponies provides an amazing opportunity for veterans and families to come out, to connect not only with Clear Path services but also to one another," said the Chief Community Officer at Clear Path for Veterans, Alex Behm, who added that social engagement is important when it comes to preventing veteran suicides and breaking isolation barriers.

Binghamton's first home game is April 7 against Somerset, the Yankees' Double-A farm club.
