The only difference is no one was watching the WNBA back then accept us hard core basketball fans. Clark became a viral phenom in college, so everything that happens to, and around her is magnified. You can't breath on her or fans scream. She's not a glass figurine. Watch every night in the WNBA there are other star players getting hard fouls, etc. It's just over magnified with Clark.

She can put teams on her back to win in the playoffs, not just the regular season. She was a one woman wrecking ball against the Mercury in the finals, and we had some tough ladies on the squad who couldn't slow her down. Clark, if she's not hot shooting, she's manageable. I've seen the Mercury beat the Fever when Clark is just normal shooting from the field.

The media and WNBA tried to make that rivalry with Reese so they could have a Magic versus Bird thing to get people interested. Again, hype.

She is a good player. No doubt. Is she the best player now? I don't think so. Is she the best ever? Not yet. She's got miles to go. She has potential to be so. Do I think the WNBA is trying to destroy her? Nope. Why would the WNBA hype her games in advertising? She's the face of the league. I just don't buy this narrative they are out to get her. They wouldn't have suspended Thomas if so.

I will not and am not arguing about Clark's appeal to the fans. So giving me All-star voting stats isn't going to sway me.

But I see the way the WNBA markets Clark, and it is NOT what AI says it is. How do you explain the 30 year poster with Sophie instead of Clark? That is a small thing, yes, but it is really a perfect symbol for where Clark stands with the League. Notice I am saying LEAGUE, and not MEDIA or FANS.

I 100% agree that if there is anyone in the league that should be promoted above Clark, it's Wilson, but Reese for some ungodly reason is also included in that group.

That's definitely fair. The problem with her teammates is that the league is quick to hand out suspensions and fines.

Apparently, the poster was made by WinCraft, and there is some sort of deal where that company can use her name, but not her likeness, which is why she's not on the poster. I don't know if that is true or not -- I've only seen it in one place -- but it does seem like a realistic possibility.

The officiating is partly to blame, IMO. The game I took my daughter, too, there was a play where CC was shoved on a drive, in front of the ref, and the ref called an offensive foul on Clark. The arena about lost it. The way the zebras are playing it they'd probably foul out all the "enforcers." But maybe that's what's needed, IDK.

Best player or not...she is the only reason me, and people like me, have bothered to turn on a WNBA game since the 90's.

gave that league a shot when it started out..was a cheryl miller fan in college... but the simple truth is, it isnt good basketball... not even fundamentally...its slow paced and boring... then player "entitlement" started hitting the wind...so I tuned it out..
a couple decades later, this skinny little white chick comes along and starts making noise on the court...so I tuned back in...
the game still pretty much sucks honestly,...the local high school plays better ball.... but i will throw support out there for a girl that loves the sport enough to take that kind of abuse and keep coming back night after night.
....coming back showed me one thing for certain... the entitlement has gotten worse.
