Correll Akings scored 18 points, including six in the fourth quarter, as Wilson defeated Gov. Mifflin 57-50 in a BCIAA Division 1 boys basketball game on Tuesday night.
Wilson kept its BCIAA playoff hopes alive in Division 1 moving to 7-3 in the division and 13-6 overall. Berks Catholic leads the division at 8-1 with Reading High and Muhlenberg each at 7-2. Wilson hosts Reading High on Friday and plays at Muhlenberg on Tuesday.
Wilson led 10-6 after the first quarter as Peter Kalfalla had 6 points.
The Bulldogs then opened a 10-point halftime lead, 31-21, as Akings and Nehemiah McLean each had 8 points.
The Mustangs (8-10, 2-8) cut the lead to 38-34 entering the final period, as Lebron Leaf, Mark Lachina and Andrew Lachina each had 3 points.
In the fourth quarter, Wilson made 14 free throws, including six from Nechar Mercado who scored 8 points in the final quarter, finishing the game with 13.
