Berks boys basketball: Reading High downs Wilson in overtime in another Division 1 thriller

For the second night in a row, a critical game in BCIAA Division 1 boys basketball went to overtime.

On Friday night, Reading High crashed Senior Night at Wilson High School, coming away with a 55-51 victory.

A night after Berks Catholic defeated Muhlenberg 54-46 in overtime in a thriller, the other two teams in the Division 1 mix delivered another gem.

The teams were tied at 44 after regulation.

With 4.3 seconds left in overtime, Cameron Jones sank two free throws to make it 55-51 and ice the game for the Red Knights, who are 15-5 overall, 8-2 Division 1. Reading High plays Berks Catholic (9-1) for the division title on Saturday.

Jones finished with 15 points and Jostin DeCastro led the Red Knights with 22.

For Wilson (13-7, 7-4 Division 1), Peter Kelfalla scored 21 points and sophomore Ronaldo Gonzalez came off the bench to score 10.

In the overtime for Reading, Tai’je Slaughter, Khaliq Weaver and Jay Merriweather each made two-point baskets and DeCastro made three free throws and Jones hit the two clutch free throws.

The Red Knights played without their second-leading scorer, three-year starter Weshly Rosario who was on the bench in street clothes.

Wilson wraps up Division 1 play on Tuesday at Muhlenberg.

Berks Catholic 9-1, Reading High 8-2, Muhlenberg 7-3, Wilson 7-4, Gov. Mifflin 3-8.

Antietam 57, Kutztown 47

Noel Coste led a balance scoring attack as Antietam defeated Kutztown 57-47 in a Division 4 contest on Friday night.

Antietam has locked up a spot in the BCIAA playoffs after winning Division, with its record now at 10-1 in division play and 14-6 overall.

Coste had 13 points, Caden Moss 11, Jonas Coste and Jake Shrem 9 each and A.J. Scheifley 8.

For the Trojans (7-14, 2-9), Tyler Cumberledge and Aaron Wilson each scored 17 points.

Fleetwood 67, Hamburg 54

Mason Senna scored 39 points as Fleetwood defeated Hamburg 67-54 in a Division 3 game on Friday night.

The Tigers are 11-10 overall and 5-5 in Division 3. Hamburg is 4-16, 1-9.

Senna made three 3-pointers, nine 2-point baskets and was 7 of 9 from the foul line.

For the Hawks, Andrew Arroyo had 12 points.

Gov. Mifflin 54, Conrad Weiser 35

John Lachina scored 12 points and Ian Fleming and Nick Kalis each had 10 as Gov. Mifflin defeated Conrad Weiser 54-35 on Friday night.

The Mustangs are 9-10, 3-8 Division 1; the Scouts are 7-14, 3-8 Division 2.

Xavier Negron scored 15 points for Conrad Weiser.

Berks Catholic 70, York Country Day 58

Kingston McKoy scored 26 points and Johnny Giesa had 23 as Berks Catholic defeated York Country Day 70-58 in a non-league game on Friday night.

The Saints improve to 16-2 and play Reading High on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Daniel Boone 54, Twin Valley 42

Zylis Tranovich scored 12 points as Daniel Boone defeated Twin Valley on Friday night, 54-42.

The Blazers are 8-11, 3-7 Division 2; the Raiders are 2-16, 0-9.
